According to Tuttosport, as cited by Fussball Transfers(FT), Bayern Munich have once again emerged as a potential destination for Paulo Dybala. The Juventus ace, who had been targeted by Manchester United last summer, is facing an uncertain future at the club, with the Italian giants expected to meet the brunt of the economic crisis inflicted by the Coronavirus.
Do Bayern really need a new attacker?
Bayern Munich are currently in a transitional phase at the moment, trying to move on from their revered attacking duo of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. They do already have a stacked offensive unit consisting of players like Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller among many others.
However, Coman has struggled with injuries for the majority of his career while Philippe Coutinho will return to Barcelona in the summer following the end of his loan spell. Same can be said for Ivan Perisic, although Bayern are keen on securing his services permanently.
Either way, the Bavarians will still require a new attacker this summer, especially with winger Alphonso Davies transforming into a fully-fledged left-back. Hence, they need someone who can primarily compete with Gnabry and Coman in the wider attacking role.
How will Dybala fit into Bayern?
Dybala is, no doubt, one of the most gifted attackers in Europe at the moment. However, he has endured a mixed time at Juventus in recent years, with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo significantly reducing his importance at the club.
At Bayern Munich, he will likely be considered as a direct replacement for Coutinho. While the Brazilian has failed to make the desired impact in the Bundesliga, his Argentine counterpart will look to enhance the club’s creative essence in the final third.
However, he will have to compete with Muller, who has enjoyed a resurgence under current coach Hansi Flick. Fortunately for Dybala, however, he can operate in a wider role, just like Muller himself, meaning the Bayern Munich coach can afford to make positional tweaks in the final third, making it easier for him to accommodate both the players in the starting lineup.
Additionally, Dybala can also serve as an alternative for Robert Lewandowski in the number nine slot, which would be pretty useful given the fact that Bayern have lacked the presence of a proper backup since the departure of Sandro Wagner.
Therefore, it is fair to assume that the Juventus man can indeed be an excellent signing for the Bavarians as they look to retain their dominance in German football.
