According to a recent report by French news outlet Le10Sport, Premier League outfit Newcastle United are said to be the latest side to have registered interest in the services of PSG’s 17-year-old defensive sensation Tanguy Kouassi. The report suggests that the Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig are currently better placed than Newcastle United to get this deal over the line. Although a lot of that could depend on when the Newcastle United financial takeover gets finalised, it’s safe to say that the Magpies are set to enter a new realm of football in the coming years.
There has already been an immense number of players linked with moves to Newcastle over the last week. Still, it must be conceded that signing this youngster would be a very different kind of purchase to the ones that are currently expected. Although there have been contract talks with the player in the past, the 17-year-old is yet to commit to the French champions, meaning that a move away from the Parc De Princes could be well on the cards for the Frenchman.
Scouting PSG Man Tanguy Kouassi
Who Is Tanguy Kouassi?
Born in the French capital city of Paris, the youngster began his youth career with some local Parisian clubs, including FC Epinay Athletico, US Senart-Moissy and even Fontainebleu RC. It was during his spell with the latter that the Frenchman was identified as a potential talent by the academy scouts at Paris Saint-Germain. The defender made the switch to the biggest club in the country back in the summer of 2016, and he’s since gone on to break into the first-team picture as well.
It took the youngster just a couple of years to make it into the first-team squad of what is arguably one of the biggest teams in the entire continent, and that must be classed as some achievement. His exploits for the Parisian outfit over the course of the season have been commendable, and the fact that he’s still only 17 will be a massive boost to any top clubs pursuing the Frenchman’s signature, including RB Leipzig and Newcastle United.
What Would Kouassi Add To This Newcastle United Side?
The 17-year-old is yet to sign his first professional contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and despite receiving a fairly decent amount of playing time for a teenager, he doesn’t seem satisfied with his place in the side. The youngster has represented France across various academy levels, and he’s notched up just under 50 appearances for the youth national side. His Ligue 1 campaign included six fixtures in the first-team – a period during which the youngster went on to score two goals as well.
Kouassi is a centre-half by position but is just as comfortable playing in the slot in front of the defenders. Adept at reading the play and making necessary interceptions, the 17-year-old could be very well suited to the English game due to his physical attributes. Despite his tender age, the Frenchman boasts excellent upper body strength and balance, while his tall frame allows him to be a threat on either end of the pitch.
The fact that Kouassi has broken into the first-team at PSG at 17-years-old should be enough to motivate the Magpies to make the move, and bringing him to the Tyneside should become a priority in the summer.
