According to a recent report by Citta Celeste, Everton are ready ‘to get serious’ about acquiring the services of Ciro Immobile from Lazio and are even willing to give up Moise Kean as part of the deal to bring the Serie A striker to Merseyside this summer. The same source has also mentioned that the Toffees are prepared to offer Immobile an €8m-per-season wage package to lure him to Goodison Park during the summer transfer window. It is believed that the Italian marksman is currently earning €3.8m-a-year in wages so the Merseyside club’s offer will be a significant upgrade for the player as he heads into the twilight years of his playing career (via Citta Celeste).
Immobile’s Brilliant Goal-Scoring Record At The Italian Capital
The 30-year-old has enjoyed the best years of his playing career at Lazio since making a switch from Sevilla in the summer of 2016. He has banged in 116 goals and registered 32 assists in 167 appearances for the Italian outfit thus far. Immobile also caught the eye for scoring goals consistently during this campaign before the football world came to a standstill due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. He has netted 30 goals and provided seven assists in 33 matches for Simone Inzaghi’s side this term in all competitions which goes to highlight how prolific he can still be in the final third.
The Italian international has averaged 3.9 shots, 1.8 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Italian top-flight this season (stats via whoscored). Immobile’s stats prove how incredibly consistent he has been for Lazio in the attacking third of the pitch which has made him a household name in Italian football.
The former Juventus youngster has also earned 39 senior caps for the Italian national team and has ten international goals to his name so far. If he can maintain his high standards in the upcoming campaign, then he should have a good shot of being named in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for the UEFA European Championship finals which will now kick-off in the summer of 2021.
What Will The Experienced Italian Forward Bring To Goodison Park?
Immobile is about to turn 31 in July, but he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down on the field. He can still use his quickness and dribbling ability to make some driving runs with the ball in the final third. The Italian has a good football IQ that allows him to get into some dangerous areas in and around the opposition penalty box. He tends to come alive when given time and space in front of goal and is usually quite accurate with his shot attempts and can even pack a lot of venom with his strikes from long range.
Immobile has established himself as an accomplished goal-scorer in the Serie A over the past few years. Therefore, he will be an exciting short-term addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad at Goodison Park as he would solve most of their goal-scoring concerns from this campaign. Everton will be wise to offer Moise Kean in return following his dismal spell at Merseyside so far.
Ancelotti is in dire need of bringing in more competition for the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. To their credit, both attackers have performed well for the Toffees since Ancelotti was appointed the permanent manager of the club back in December. However, Richarlison is better suited to play as a winger while Calvert-Lewin can still be a bit inconsistent and would need time to develop into a world-class forward.
Hence, a striker of Immobile’s experience and attacking potential will undeniably be a welcome acquisition for the Toffees as he will bring a lot of goals to the Merseyside club. He will also inspire Ancelotti’s younger players like Anthony Gordon to step up and give a good account of themselves at the highest level in the coming seasons.
