According to a recent report by Spanish news source Mundo Deportivo, Spanish giants Barcelona are said to be interested in signing an enthusiastic midfielder, who would add energy as well and aggressiveness to the Catalan giants’ central line. It has been suggested that the La Liga outfit are considering Chelsea star N’Golo Kante as the primary option. At the same time, Tottenham Hotspur man Tanguy Ndombele is said to be in contention.
The report suggests that the Catalan side could look to offer Chelsea the services of Philippe Coutinho in exchange of the Frenchman’s signature. It has been claimed that the Brazilian has his eyes set on a move to the Premier League with Chelsea, which is where Kante plies his trade as well. It is also clarified that the Spanish club have been admirers of Kante’s talents for while now and that they had been holding off for so long due to a surplus of options in the central areas.
What Makes N’Golo Kante Such An Attractive Prospect?
The Frenchman has been one of the highest-rated midfield players of the last decade, and it’s not surprising at all that he’s already got a World Cup winner’s medal. Having arrived at Chelsea from Leicester City after the Foxes’ historic title-winning campaign, the midfield destroyer has gone on to become a key feature of the Chelsea system, irrespective of the whichever manager was at the helm at Stamford Bridge.
Arguably the best defensive-midfielder in the world at this moment, Kante’s biggest point of attraction is the fact that he seems to be tireless on the ball. Capable of running for the whole ninety minutes without stopping, Kante’s most prominent strengths include tackling, interceptions and tracking back. The former Leicester man seems to have eyes all around his head, as he almost seems to sniff out danger.
Under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri last season, the Frenchman was forced to play in a more advanced position, and although he didn’t complain too much, it was clear that he looked off the pace in the new role. This season though, Kante has struggled to have an impact in the first-team due to continuous injuries, owing to which he’s featured in just 18 league appearances.
Why Barcelona Should Offload Coutinho In Exchange For Kante
Coutinho’s arrival from Liverpool was seen as one of the biggest high points in Barcelona’s recent history, but as it turned out, things haven’t worked quite as planned. Currently playing out a loan spell at Bayern Munich, the Brazilian is expected to be sold by the Catalan side in the summer. If they’re able to use him to lure World Cup winner N’Golo Kante to the Nou Camp next season, it could turn out to be the coup of the season.
