According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are said to be willing to sanction the £200m transfer of English striker Harry Kane to Manchester United this summer. It has been suggested that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to cash in on Kane this summer, to relieve the club from some of the financial concerns that they’ve been facing, especially considering that the London club are still repaying their stadium loan.
It has been clarified that in the report that Levy will permit Harry Kane to leave in the summer, to immediately generate as much fund as possible. Considering this, it’s perhaps not surprising that Spurs were among the first teams to furlough all non-playing staff on the back of the worldwide pandemic, despite the poor publicity that it warranted.
The London club reportedly owe £637m for the stadium and a further £83m for transfers. Moreover, Levy is said to be furious at Kane’s comments that the season should be voided if it’s not completed by June.
What Is Manchester United’s Current Strike Situation?
At the start of the season, there was a lot of talk about the repositioning of French forward Anthony Martial as Manchester United’s new first-choice striker. Although they started the campaign in excellent fashion against Chelsea, consistency seemed to be a lingering issue. United began to become dependent on Marcus Rashford to get the goals, and Martial, unlike what was predicted at the start of the season, was struggling to find form.
The injury to Rashford did nothing to help their cause, as Martial’s mundane displays in front of goal just seemed to continue. Although winter loan signing Odion Ighalo has hit the ground running, depending on the former Watford man permanently could become an issue. The addition of a top quality centre-forward would take this United team to the next level in the summer, especially with the presence of talented midfield playmaker Bruno Fernandes.
What Makes Harry Kane An Attractive Option For Manchester United?
First and foremost, Harry Kane is the skipper of the English national team, and would hence add a degree of some much-needed leadership and experience to what is a youthful United front-line. The Spurs striker’s ability to finish from anywhere in the box has been a feature of the Premier League game for a few years now, and acquiring such a talismanic striker could be exactly what this Manchester United team need.
Is This A Move That Ole Must Make In The Summer?
United had begun to display major signs of improvement before the season was postponed. Despite the injury to Rashford, they were able to get into a good run of form thanks to the strong work by Portuguese sensation Bruno Fernandes. Even with names like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford available to them, it’s safe to say that United are yet to find a natural replacement for Belgian ace Romelu Lukaku, and that’s why this move for Harry Kane could turn out to be the signing of the season.
