According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Serie A giants AS Roma are said to be preparing a contract to acquire the services of Chelsea winger Pedro.
The report suggests that the Italian club are stepping up their interest in the former Barcelona man and that they’ve even prepared a deal worth around £2.7m year plus bonuses for the Spaniard’s signature. The report further claims that the Spaniard has confirmed that he will be departing Chelsea at the end of the season as a free agent.
It has been suggested in the report that the Spanish international has been free to negotiate with Roma since January and that he also has various keen suitors watching on from across the pond at the MLS.
What Has Pedro Achieved At Chelsea?
The Spaniard arrived from European giants Barcelona in the summer of 2015, after spending a little more than seven years at the Nou Camp. Having already won the World Cup and Champions League trophies at Barca before he arrived, the veteran speedster became an extremely influential member of what was a talented Chelsea dressing room. Since the transfer from La Liga, the Spaniard has won a Premier League title, an FA Cup and even a Europa League trophy.
The speedster has been a regular feature of this Chelsea side over the years, and irrespective of which manager was in charge at the time, Pedro has always been an important player to the staff and the fans alike. Capable of playing on both flanks, the former Barcelona man has scored many huge goals for the Blues along the way. The brilliant late goal he scored in a 1-0 victory against Everton during the London club’s title-winning campaign in 2017 is the stuff of Premier League legend now.
The Right Time For Pedro To Leave
The San Isidro youth product has struggled for playing time this season as Frank Lampard’s youth-based ideology hasn’t exactly worked in the Spaniard’s favour. Now 32 and edging towards the twilight years of his career, it’s fairly obvious to see that he wouldn’t fit into the system that the manager is trying to implement. The acquisition of Hakim Ziyech and the promotions to Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham clearly show that the Blues are attempting to take a youthful route.
Since arriving in 2015, it must be conceded that the Spanish international has been a loyal servant at Stamford Bridge. Despite not boasting the greatest consistency, the 32-year-old has often stepped up to the plate with key goals, while his influence in the build-up play simply cannot be underplayed. The veteran winger has undoubtedly become a fan-favourite at the King’s Road thanks to all his exploits, and his inevitable departure will be surely be considered as a sad day in the West London club’s long-standing history.
