In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy urged his old employers to sign someone like Manchester City’s Leroy Sane if they are looking to replace Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah this summer. When asked about whether Wolverhampton Wanderers speedster Adama Traore would be a suitable signing for the Reds, Murphy replied (via Football Insider),
“Traore makes a lot of headlines because of his pace and power but to step into a title-winning side, to replace somebody like Mane or Salah – I do not think he is there yet.
“Somebody like Leroy Sane – possibly. He is coming back from injury and has been linked with a move away recently and could be surplus to requirements. He is young, a great talent and has experience. That would be more realistic, but I do not know if Manchester City would sell to rivals.”
Sane’s Frustrations In English Football This Season
Sane has endured an injury-ravaged season at the Etihad Stadium after suffering a severe cruciate ligament rupture against Liverpool in the Community Shield final back in August last year. Since then, he is yet to receive any playing minutes for the Citizens this term with his only other appearance coming in a Premier League 2 match versus Arsenal.
With the football season coming to an abrupt halt as a result of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the German international has been unable to make his return to the pitch. He is currently facing an uncertain future at the blue half of Manchester. Pep Guardiola’s side could potentially be banned from all UEFA competitions for at least two years which won’t make it easy for them to convince Sane to commit his long-term future to the club.
Hence, the player might benefit from a change of scenery this summer so that he can make a fresh start away from the Etihad. He has also earned 21 senior caps for the German national team and has got five goals to his name thus far. If Sane can overcome his recent injury setbacks and perform at a high-level next season, then he will have a good chance of being a part of Germany’s squad for the UEFA European Championship which is now set to kick off in the summer of 2021.
What Are The German Wide Player’s Best Attributes?
Sane can use his pace and quick feet to complete some penetrative dribbles down the left flank. He is always willing to take on his marker and beat them in a 1v1 footrace to get to the byline to whip in some inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box. The German winger has gradually transformed himself into an accomplished finisher in the final third.
Should The Premier League Leaders Listen To Murphy’s Advice?
As long as Sane can make his way back to full fitness, he can be a real gamechanger for any top side in Europe. Jurgen Klopp can undeniably gain a lot from recruiting a wing wizard of Sane’s quality and potential. The German talent will be a perfect fit for the Reds as he will offer the same attributes as Mane and Salah at Anfield. However, what makes him such an outstanding option for Klopp to consider is his age.
The 24-year-old is about to embark upon the peak years of his playing career so the Merseyside club can benefit a lot in the coming seasons if they listen to Danny Murphy’s advice by orchestrating a move for Sane before the start of the new campaign.
