According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has revealed that his current contract at the Molineux doesn’t include a release clause and that the club from the Black Country won’t be willing to sell him for less than the €40m they paid to acquire him from former employers SL Benfica. The striker further claimed that he was offered a mammoth £6.9m per year after taxes deal to move to a club in the Chinese Super League, but that he rejected the opportunity to test himself in one of the world’s strongest leagues.
The Mexican clarified that no release clause has been embedded into his contract, but conceded that clubs in England are managed quite differently. The striker’s current tenure at the Molineux extends until the end of the 2022/23 campaign, meaning that any suitors will have a fairly strenuous task of luring him away. The report suggests that European giants Manchester United and Real Madrid are both keeping a keen eye on the attacker’s progress in the Black Country.
What Makes Jimenez The Perfect Striker For Wolves?
The Mexican international initially arrived on a loan deal from Portuguese outfit Benfica, but then went on to have an impressive impact within his first few months in the league. Having made himself a regular in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, alongside the dynamic Diogo Jota, there’s been no slowing the forward down.
If there was one attribute that stands out in Jimenez’s play, then it has to be his ability to ward off pressure from defenders. A brilliant header of the ball, the former Benfica man also times his runs brilliantly to meet crosses. The forward also works hard during defensive set-piece situations.
Adept at turning people inside-out, the 28-year-old is undoubtedly one of the complete strikers in the entire league, in that there’s not a single thing that he can’t do. Tall and physically well-built, Jimenez can beat a defender for pace or by using his trickery, but he really shines through after getting into the box. The Mexican is undoubtedly amongst the best finishers in the league, as can be seen from some of the brilliant goals he’s scored.
Why There’s Reason For Wolves Fans To Get Excited?
For all the quality players that this Wolves squad contains, it must be conceded that Jimenez is right up there with the best of them. The support provided by players like Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho has helped bring the best out of the Mexican, who has an impressive record of 13 goals in 29 league appearances this season. With six assists to his name as well, it’s easy to see why some of the world’s biggest clubs are after his signature.
Jimenez’s comments will surely come as positive news for Wolves fans. The forward is obviously very well-suited to, not just Nuno’s free-flowing attack-minded system, but also to the sheer pace and energy of the English game. The external interest is understandable, but given the progress that this Wolves side have been making as a club, an immediate departure from the Molineux is now looking unlikelier by the day.
