According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Premier League giants Manchester City are said to be considering English striker Harry Kane as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero. It is claimed that the North London club have slapped an abominable price tag of £200m on the striker’s head, owing largely to the fact that the attacker still has the best part of four years left on his current Tottenham Hotspur contract. The report claims that Manchester United are also interested in the Spurs man services.
The report suggests that Spurs have a real struggle on their hands to keep the Englishman if they’re unable to secure Champions League football at the end of the season. Despite this, Spurs are claimed to be confident of keeping their man, with hopes that the mammoth price tag and the impending COVID-19 pandemic will keep any suitors at arm’s length. The striker himself recently revealed during an Instagram Q&A session that he wouldn’t stay at Spurs ‘just for the sake of it’, leaving all the questions about his immediate future unanswered.
What Attributes Would Harry Kane Add To This Manchester City Attack?
The Englishman is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the European game at the moment, and it wouldn’t be overly far-fetched to claim that he’s the best the nation of England has produced in a fairly long time.
The Spurs man is a rather traditional centre-forward, who likes to use his physicality as well as finishing abilities to dominate the centre-halves he’s up against. The 26-year-old’s impressive scoring record over the years is something worth considering as well.
Moreover, the attacker is adept at finding the net from the most awkward angles or the most improbable distances, making him an excellent option for a free-flowing attacking system like the one implemented by Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium. The Englishman has been around the scene for the longest time now and is one of the few Premier League strikers to have registered over 20 goals in four back-to-back league campaigns. Despite being quite different from Aguero in his playing style, Kane could be considered the ideal fusion of Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
Why Signing Kane Would Be A Smart Move By City?
Pep Guardiola has always preferred experienced Argentine striker Sergio Aguero to Gabriel Jesus up-front, and with good reason. The former Atletico Madrid man is now undoubtedly a Premier League legend, but the fact that he’s completely ineffective in some fixtures has been a concern. In matches like that, where the opposition plan to sit deep and absorb any pressure, Guardiola opts to deploy Jesus in the striker’s role instead, thereby expecting a different kind of approach from his front-man.
Harry Kane would be the ideal man to bring in to try and address this concern, and he possesses all the best attributes from the skill-sets of both the aforementioned City strikers. With 181 goals and 30 assists from just under 280 fixtures, the Englishman’s scoring rate will be the least of the manager’s concerns. More importantly, despite having spent his entire career at Tottenham, the Englishman is yet to receive a single winner’s medal. A move to the reigning Premier League champions as the replacement for one of the most historic strikers in the league’s history would be the ideal move for Kane at this stage in his career.
