According to a recent report by German publication Bild, Premier League sides Newcastle United, West Ham United and Everton are all set to enter a transfer battle for the services of want-away Danish star Yussuf Poulsen. The 25-year-old RB Leipzig winger is said to have recently handed in a transfer request, effectively announcing to the rest of Europe that he’s available for sale in the upcoming summer transfer window.
What Kind Of Player Is Yussuf Poulsen?
Born in the Danish capital Copenhagen, the speedster began his playing career at a couple of local clubs, before eventually being scouted and signed as a potential talent by German giants RB Leipzig. Since making the move, the 25-year-old has gone on to become one of the most important players in the squad offering an extremely attack-minded skill-set in the final third of the pitch.
Originally of Tanzanian origin, the winger possesses monstrous pace, which he tends to use quite effectively as well. Adept at running at opposition defenders, the Dane boasts a wide variety of subtle tricks and flicks that he uses fairly efficiently. Most importantly, the speedster adds a degree of intent and directness to Leipzig’s attacking play, as he doesn’t mind sticking to the touch-line and offering himself as a constant option.
Another one of the 25-year-old’s biggest attributes is his ability to pick out a pass into the box from wide. Despite not being overly prolific in front of goal, it must be conceded that the Dane possesses a beast of a right foot. Comfortable playing long diagonal switches, the winger could be quite well-suited to the exciting fast-paced action of Premier League football. The speedster’s numbers this season read three goals and five assists from 20 league fixtures.
What The Magpies Must Move For Poulsen?
Newcastle United’s search for attacking firepower over the last couple of transfer windows has been no secret. Although the signings of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin have helped Steve Bruce’s cause to a certain extent, there is still an obvious shortage of attacking penetration at Tyneside. Yussuf Poulsen could be the perfect target for a club like the Magpies.
Steve Bruce is a manager that likes to ensure that his defence stays solid before thinking about attacking football. Also, pace is undoubtedly one of the Magpies’ biggest weapons going forward. Poulsen will ensure that both the above criteria are met as he tends to work extremely hard while tracking back off the ball. But he also has the blistering pace required to beat any defender in the world in a foot-race.
The likes of Everton and West Ham have also been on the lookout for budget attacking talents, but when it comes it Poulsen, there’s no doubt that the speedster would be best suited to St. James’ Park.
