According to Sport Mediaset, as cited by Sempre Inter, Bayern Munich are keen on securing the services of Ivan Perisic permanently this summer. However, they want a discount on his €20 million release clause set by Inter Milan. The Italian outfit, however, are willing to let go of their Croatian winger if the Bavarians offer Corentin Tolisso in return, meaning a swap deal could be a possibility.
Ivan Perisic: A vital cog in the Bayern attack?
Perisic made his much-awaited return to the Bundesliga last summer when he joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan deal. His arrival was vital, especially following the departure of Franck Ribery as well as the retirement of Arjen Robben.
The Croatian has endured an unlucky campaign so far, mustering less than 1,000 minutes of league football. He suffered an ankle injury earlier this year while the resurgence of Thomas Muller under Hansi Flick hasn’t helped his cause either. Moreover, he had to compete with Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman for a place in the first-team.
Despite all that, Perisic has been involved in nine Bundesliga goals in just 15 appearances. And going forward, his experience could be vital for an otherwise young Bayern Munich squad, who are ready to make the transition next season. But, at the same time, the ex-Borussia Dortmund star shouldn’t expect regular game-time and is likely to be considered only as a second choice winger.
Corentin Tolisso: Finally a Bayern outcast?
As for Tolisso, things haven’t exactly gone according to the plan after joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2017, for a whopping fee of €41.5 million. The Frenchman has mostly struggled with injuries, notably enduring seven different spells on the sidelines since moving to the Bundesliga.
As a result, Tolisso is still yet to make himself a regular first-team option for Bayern. And the job has become even more difficult with Joshua Kimmich shifting into central midfield, which is combined with the resurgence of Thiago Alcantara. The Bavarians also have Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez. Therefore, Tolisso has finally become a Bayern outcast.
Does the swap deal make sense?
Swapping Tolisso for Perisic makes a lot of sense for Bayern Munich as they look to refine their squad under Flick this summer. As mentioned earlier, the Frenchman has had a difficult time in Bavaria, and a move away from Allianz Arena could provide him with the opportunity to prove his worth once again.
As for Perisic, he could remain a reliable option for Flick in the offensive department. And with Bayern unlikely to retain the services of Philippe Coutinho, the Croatian could perhaps even enjoy a more prominent role in the first-team next season.
