According to a recent report by The Athletic (Paid Subscription Required), Premier League giants Chelsea have been issued a massive update by former academy graduate Jeremie Boga, as the Ivorian has admitted that a return to Chelsea in the future is something that he would surely consider. The youngster went on to speak about how he had to compete with the likes of Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard for the wide roles back then, and how things could be easier for him in the near future.
The 23-year-old was sold to Sassuolo with a buy-back clause worth somewhere in the region of €20m already embedded into the contract, as the Blues management seemed to have learned from the mistakes they made in the past sales of Kevin De Bruyne, Mo Salah and Romelu Lukaku. The report suggests that the Ivorian international is open to re-joining this ‘talented’ Chelsea side, in what would’ve come as excellent news for Blues’ fans all around the world.
What Would Jeremie Boga Add To This Chelsea Side?
The speedster was originally a product of the Chelsea academy and has only recently made a name for himself in the European circuit. Having left Stamford Bridge in 2018 in search of better opportunities, the 23-year-old went on to join Serie A outfit Sassuolo, where it’s safe to say that he’s been an absolute sensation.
Adept at beating a man for pace, the youngster boasts excellent balance and agility while in possession and can be phenomenally rapid over a short distance.
A very different kind of winger to the ones Chelsea currently possess, Boga can be the hallmark of directness on the football pitch, as he doesn’t wimp out of any challenges in the final third. Intelligent in possession and confident in his abilities, the former Chelsea man will be a smart addition for any top club. Moreover, the fact that the Ivorian is willing to work his socks off in defence as well, irrespective of the circumstances, is what makes him such an attractive prospect for Lampard.
Why Chelsea Must Re-Sign Boga This Summer?
The Blues have undoubtedly been lacking in various attacking areas this season, and it’s safe to say that out wide has been one of Lampard’s serial concerns. While it could be argued that the eventual returns to fitness of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi will have a strong positive impact, the fact that the other two options in Willian and Pedro are on the wrong side of their thirties would be concerning Lampard.
The Willian transfer situation has been no secret either after the Brazilian admitted that he would like to remain at Chelsea even though he’s not being offered the contract terms of his choice. Also, although Pedro has pitched in with a couple of decent contributions in recent months, the fact remains that the veteran is well past his prime now. Boga is still only 23 and is arguably one of the best attacking talents to have come out of the Chelsea academy in recent years. That’s why Frank Lampard must do everything in his power to bring the Ivorian back to Stamford Bridge this summer.
