Daniel Sturridge has revealed the secret behind Jürgen Klopp’s training methods. The England striker has been on the bench for most of the time after Klopp adopted a more attacking 4-3-3 formation and decided to deploy Roberto Firmino as the false nine.
Sturridge said that German gaffer gives more importance on tactical training rather than playing practice matches, “It’s very tactical based. I couldn’t tell you the last time we played five-a-side. Maybe the day after a game the players who didn’t play will go four-v-four, but we never really have small-sided games.”
This is Klopp’s first full season at Liverpool and the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager has helped Liverpool to gain the top spot. He said, “We might do a shooting session but there’s a lot else going on with the passing that’s involved. You have to be on point. You need to be focused. You don’t want to be the one who messes it up. It’s very tactical, preparing for the opposition.”
Sturridge also added that the absence of the Reds in the Europe have handed them an extra advantage as they have the room for extra training, “In football, not many clubs do double sessions during the season but we have the opportunity to do it with no Europe and we can use that time.
“The first session is usually a bridge session for the second one. It’s more relaxed. The second session is more intense,” he finishes off.
