According to a recent report by Marca, Spanish giants Real Madrid are said to be preparing for the summer sale of Welsh superstar Gareth Bale, as Zinedine Zidane looks to optimise his squad ahead of Brexit, which is set to take place next January. Los Blancos are said to have decided that Bale’s contributions at the Bernabeu are drying up and that selling him this summer would be in the club’s best interest. Despite this, the former Tottenham man’s agent has clarified that his client is happy with life in Madrid.
The report suggests that Real Madrid came to this decision on the back of three important factors. While Brexit was always going to be an issue with a limit set to be imposed in the number of non-EU players, the biggest concern for Zidane would have been the Welshman’s lack of conviction while on the pitch. Despite his massive reputation, the speedster has struggled to impact this season, and Los Blancos have made it clear that they can not afford to spend almost €17m every year on just his salary as well.

The Welshman arrived at the Spanish capital with an inexplicably monstrous reputation already weighing him down, and the amount of pressure that was piled on by the club and it’s fans certainly didn’t help Bale’s cause. Unable to nail down a starting role at any point unless there was an injury, Bale’s contributions to the side have been quite minimal this season as well. The Welshman has featured in just 14 La Liga fixtures since the start of the campaign, and he’s started less than half of them. Also, the fact that he’s scored just twice all season, with both the goals coming before September, highlights the sheer lack of confidence that the speedster is going through.
His career numbers do seem impressive on paper, but it must be considered that in every match the former Tottenham man ever played for the club, there have always been top-quality players all around him. Despite lining up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema for the longest time, the Welshman just didn’t seem to be making any positive progress. Although his 105 goals and 67 assists from 249 fixtures reads well on paper, the trickster’s exploits on the pitch have been questionable.
