Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur were only able to salvage a point from their league clash against Burnley tonight, as a second-half penalty leveller by Dele Alli proved to be the final goal of the fixture. The away side were put under a lot of pressure right from the off, and it didn’t come as a surprise when Chris Wood opened the scoring for the Clarets in the first period. The draw means that Spurs missed out on the opportunity to climb above Manchester United tonight temporarily, and they remained in 8th place.
Tottenham Hotspur Players Rated In Draw Vs Burnley
Hugo Lloris – 5
The Frenchman should’ve definitely got a stronger hand to the Jay Rodriguez shot that eventually broke to Chris Wood for the Burnley goal on the night. Collected fairly effectively from set-pieces.
Davinson Sanchez – 3
Arguably his worst ever performance in a Tottenham shirt, the centre-half seemed to completely lose the plot just a few minutes into the tie. Struggled to deal with crosses played into the box.
Eric Dier – 4.5
Started the game as a makeshift centre-half, playing in between Alderweireld and Sanchez to provide additional cover. Could also be held directly responsible for allowing Burnley the chance to score.
Toby Alderweireld – 5.5
The veteran Belgian international didn’t allow the Burnley attackers to progress down his flank too much. Made some good blocks and worked his socks off dealing with all the crosses into the box.
Japhet Tanganga – 4.5
The youngster looked entirely out of place in the first half as he struggled to deal with the relentless pressure from the Clarets. Didn’t really utilise the attacking spaces in the second half either.
Oliver Skipp – 3
Another one of the serial under-performers for Jose Mourinho tonight, the youngster who impressed in midweek failed to have any sort of impact on proceedings all through the first half.
Tanguy Ndombele – 3.5
Like his central midfield partner, he struggled to influence the tie in any manner whatsoever. Used his physicality to do a slightly better job than Skipp, but was similarly taken off at the halfway mark.
Jan Vertonghen – 4.5
More proof that Jose Mourinho’s prime as a top Premier League coach is well behind him – the centre-half started the game at wing-back. Failed to impress even a little.
Erik Lamela – 6.5
The Argentine was given a rare league start, and he tried quite hard to impact the fixture in the first half. Made good forward movements despite the lack of cohesion within the team.
Steven Bergwijn – 5
Tried to influence Spurs’ attacking play, but never really looked like providing any quality in the final third. Needs to work on maintaining possession as he lost it cheaply a couple of times.
Dele Alli – 7
While the fact that he scored the equaliser did have a massive part to play in his rating, it must be conceded that the talented Englishman was Spurs’ best player on the pitch.
Substitutes
Giovani Lo Celso – 5.5
The midfielder didn’t have his usual impact in the central areas because Burnley seemed to in control for significant periods of the tie. Needs to work on his general awareness on the ball.
Lucas Moura – 6.5
The Brazilian speedster was thrown on by Jose at half-time as Spurs looked to push for the equaliser. Made some sharp attacking runs and caused the Burnley defence some concerns as well.
Serge Aurier – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
