Tottenham and Everton are reportedly eyeing up a move for Icelandic centre-back Hordur Bjorgvin in the January transfer window. Currently playing in the Championship with Bristol City, the Icelandic international has formed a formidable centre-back partnership with Aden Flint and they complement each other perfectly.
Born in the city of Reykjavik in Iceland, the player began his youth career with Fram in 1998. After impressing a scout, Magnusson moved to Turin to sign for Juventus in 2011 where he was registered with the club’s youth academy. During his time with the Old Lady, the defender didn’t play once for the club but was sent on loan to Serie B outfit Spezia on a co-ownership agreement in 2013, where he appeared for the club 20 times.
In the subsequent year, Juve once again brought back the 50% share of the player from Spezia and loaned him out to Cesena. In his first year, the defender was able to make his Serie A debut at last with Cesena appearing 12 times.
With his loan deal renewed the following year, as Cesena dropped down to the Serie B once again, Magnusson made 27 Serie B appearances playing very well to sign up with Bristol City for a three year deal in 2016. Since his move to England, the defender has made 16 appearances in the Championship being very impressive at the back.
Brilliant defensive displays against the likes of Fulham, Leeds and Blackburn has made him a target for some Premier League clubs. Standing at a towering 1.90m, the 23-year-old can play as a centre-back or a left fullback. A left-footed defender who is comfortable in playing out from the back, Bristol City are reaping the rewards of the solid defensive partnership formed by the Iceland international with the fellow 27-year-old English giant in Aden Flint.
The Robins are currently are in the 9th place in the Championship and are eyeing to bag a playoff spot at the end of the season. It is believed that Tottenham Hotspurs and Everton are in pole positions to land the defender with other clubs also being in the mix.
Mauricio Pochettino is particularly keen to secure the players signature, whom he sees as a replacement for Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer, who is unsettled at the club. It is believed that a bid of £10m or above is expected by Hordur Bjorgvin’s current employers if anybody wants to have the player who has already become a key part of Manager Lee Johnson’s side.
