Manchester United locked horns against Everton at Goodison Park earlier today hoping to close the gap to Chelsea in the top four race with a win on the road. The Red Devils made a sloppy start to the game when David De Gea made a horrendous error as his desperate clearance was closed down by Dominic Calvert-Lewin who inadvertently deflected the ball into an empty net. However, Bruno Fernandes levelled the scoreline with a superb strike in the 31st minute.
Both sides went all out in search of the three points after the half-time break but to no great effect. There was a lot of controversy towards the end of the game when Calvert-Lewin thought he scored the winning goal which was later chalked off as off-side by VAR. Gylfi Sigurdsson was found to be obstructing the view of De Gea. Man United was lucky to escape with a point after playing out an entertaining 1-1 draw away at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the game versus the Toffees.
Manchester United Players Rated In Hard-Fought Draw Vs Everton
GK: David De Gea – 5/10
The Spanish goalie made an unforgivable error in the lead-up to Calvert-Lewin’s opener. However, he made amends after denying Richarlison a goal late in the game, which was enough for his team to secure a point.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10
The ex-Crystal Palace defender showed great desire to get forward in the first half, but he struggled to keep it going in the second. He defended well at the back to restrict Everton to just one goal.
CB: Harry Maguire – 7/10
Unlike his centre-back partner, Maguire was a calm presence at the heart of the Man United backline and did well to cope with the threat of the Everton attacks throughout the game.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 4.5/10
The Man United centre-back had a tough night while up against the energetic duo of Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. He looked nervous under pressure but did enough to keep a clean sheet in the second 45 minutes.
LB: Luke Shaw – 7/10
The English full-back was bright and energetic down the left flank but had a lot of defending to do after the half-time break. It was another solid performance from him today.
CDM: Nemanja Matic – 7/10
The Serbian midfield ace excelled in his natural position as he protected the Red Devils backline with authority and conviction. He was unfortunate to have scored with his attempt that rattled the crossbar.
CM: Fred – 7.5/10
The Brazilian linked up play well between the defence and attack. He interchanged some neat passes with others around him and showed invention with his ball-distribution going forward.
CM: Scott McTominay – 5.5/10
He is still not at his best following his return from injury. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be happy that he got 72 minutes of playing time under his belt today.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
The Portuguese talent enjoyed playing in the number ten position and showed what he is capable of in the 31st minute when he scored with a powerful finish. He was excellent throughout the 90 minutes and showed a lot of creativity in the final third.
ST: Anthony Martial – 5/10
The French striker had a poor game and was mostly a frustrated figure up top. He will be hoping for better days in a Man United shirt.
ST: Mason Greenwood – 5.5/10
The youngster made some dangerous runs but lacked the cutting edge in front of the opposition goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Odion Ighalo – 5/10
The striker struggled to make a meaningful contribution on the field.
CAM: Juan Mata – 4/10
The Spaniard offered very little after coming off the bench.
LB: Brandon Williams – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
