According to a recent report by The Sun, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to be considering a summer offload that could see up to eight different players leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. The report arose after the Blues’ embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, and Frank Lampard is said to have had enough with multiple renowned Chelsea first-team stars.
It has been claimed that the likes of Willian, Pedro and Ross Barkley could all be sold, while the widely criticised left-back duo of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri are both facing the axe too. Jorginho is another midfielder who has had extremely mixed reviews since his move to the Premier League from Napoli. At the same time, defensive stalwarts Kepa Arrizabalaga and Kurt Zouma have also failed to capture the gaffer’s imagination.
What Has Gone Wrong At Chelsea This Season?
The Blues started the campaign on the worst possible note by losing 4-0 to fierce rivals Manchester United on the opening day. Although Frank Lampard brought about an excellent response from this young group of players, the glory turned out to be extremely short-lived. Since the turn of the year, Chelsea’s play has been riddled with inconsistency, and their apparent inability to create proper goalscoring opportunities further adds to Lampard’s miseries.
Frank Lampard Ready To Axe EIGHT Chelsea Stars In The Summer: The Three Sales He Must Prioritise
Pedro
The Spanish veteran has been an excellent servant at Chelsea for a long time, but it’s now becoming clearer by the day that the 31-year-old lacks the pace required to excel at the highest level. Lampard has preferred most of his other options to the Spaniard all through the campaign and having been forced to play him over the last couple of weeks, his performances have been massively underwhelming.
Emerson Palmieri
The Italian international full-back was acquired with massive expectations, and although he impressed for periods under Maurizio Sarri, inconsistency has severely hurt the speedster’s dying Chelsea career. Although Marcos Alonso makes mistakes, there’s no denying that the Spaniard is adept while operating as a wing-back as part of the back five. Emerson, on the other hand, just seems to look average wherever he’s deployed.
Jorginho
The Italian midfielder was brought into the side by former coach Maurizio Sarri who intended to imprint his identity on the team before even taking over his first training session. Jorginho has had a mixed bag of a season, but the fact that he lacks any real pace could make it extremely difficult for the former Napoli man to survive in the physical nature of the Premier League. The recent outing against Munich displayed the Italian in the worst possible light, and Lampard will do well to cash in on Jorginho while he’s still holding onto a reputation.
