Manchester United will lock horns with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon looking to secure all three points so that they can close the gap to Chelsea in the Premier League’s Top 4 race. The Red Devils are enjoying an excellent run of form at the moment and will come into this encounter full of confidence following a dominant 5-0 win over Club Brugge in midweek.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and might make several changes to his first-team for this contest versus Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Everton
Defence
David De Gea will operate in goal for the Red Devils after being rested in the midweek win over Brugge. Victor Lindelof will line up alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the Red Devils defence as they look to keep Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in check on Sunday.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will assume the duties of the right-back while Luke Shaw looks to create a few chances from the left-back position. Both Man United full-backs will have to figure out a way to restrict the Everton wide players from causing problems this weekend.
Brandon Williams will be available for selection on Solskjaer bench. However, Axel Tuanzebe is still making his way back to full fitness, so he is unlikely to feature in this clash away at Merseyside.
Midfield
Despite Scott McTominay’s impressive performance versus Brugge on Thursday, Solskjaer might select Nemanja Matic to play alongside Fred in the holding midfield positions. The midfield duo will focus their attention on retaining possession and providing adequate cover at the back. Fred managed to score a brace in his last outing which will give him a boost of confidence heading into this showdown at Goodison Park.
Daniel James and Mason Greenwood will likely get the nod to provide some natural width out on the flanks. Bruno Fernandes is a nailed-on starter in the number ten position after scoring two goals in his last two matches across all competitions. The Portuguese attacking midfielder will also share most of the creative burden with James and Greenwood as they hope to cook up some decent chances for Martial up top.
Both Jesse Lingard and McTominay will have to settle for a spot on the bench, but they might get a chance to make an impact in the game if required.
Attack
Anthony Martial is a significant doubt for this game after he sustained a muscle injury in training ahead of the emphatic Europa League win over Philippe Clement’s side. If the Frenchman can recover in time, then he will be guaranteed the responsibility to lead the line for the Red Devils down the middle. If he fails to make himself available for selection, then we can expect Odion Ighalo to spearhead Solskjaer’s attack this weekend.
