Former Celtic goalkeeper Packie Bonner recently revealed that Everton had scouts watching Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard. The French striker scored in the tie against Kilmarnock as Everton scouts kept a close eye on him.
Bonner reveals Everton keeping track of Edouard
Bonner said to BBC Sportsound (Via Daily Record), “Celtic will probably have to sell one or two players in the summer. Edouard looks like he could be one. I was talking to one of the scouts from Everton who was here today. He’s talking so highly of guys like McGregor and Edouard, and they are attracting the attention of big clubs.”
Bonner believes that Celtic might have to part ways with Edouard in the summer. Given his form this season, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to move for bigger and better things in the upcoming transfer window. Edouard has been in breathtaking form since the winter break, and it is no surprise that Everton are keeping track of him.
Lennon’s earlier comments about Edouard
Not too long ago, Lennon had warned the Celtic faithful that they shouldn’t expect him to be like Henrik Larsson who would stay at the club for long. The Hoops boss had said (Daily Record), “We want to keep him (Edouard) for as long as we can, but sometimes business dictates otherwise. However, he’s enjoying his football and seems happy here. He’s a very quiet kid off the field, laid back and easy going. You don’t get too many foreign players nowadays doing what Henrik did and staying here for seven years.”
It is clear that Edouard could move away in the future and that future could very much be the upcoming summer window. Everton could just be the right kind of club for Edouard. Working under an iconic manager like Carlo Ancelotti should also appeal to him.
Edouard has his contract at the Parkhead until 2022, and if possible, Celtic should look to extend his deal by a year or two which would increase his price tag further. However, we think that Edouard might not be too keen to extend knowing well that he could move to some of the top leagues of the world soon.
How much should Celtic demand?
All Celtic can do is to get the best deal out of Edouard in the summer. Everton have shown big ambition in the past, and the Hoops should demand somewhere around £40m for their striker. If Edouard continues with his impressive form, then a bidding war could happen between some of the top clubs for the French forward.
