West Ham United are one of those teams in the Premier League this season who have had a disappointing start after showing immense promise last season. The Hammers’ performance this season has clearly indicated that last season was one of the rare occasions when top clubs failed to perform and the lower clubs took advantage. Except Watford, hardly any team have picked up their form from where they had ended last season.
Slaven Bilic’s side are currently at the 17th position in the league just above the relegation zone having just 11 points from 11 games. Although the table is pretty tight this season where a win could take any club up by much, West Ham’s attack has been shambolic this season making it difficult for the London club to score. They have scored only 11 times this season.
West Ham’s forward, Simone Zaza, has been utterly disappointing failing to find the net even once this season despite getting 9 chances this season. The Hammers had some saving grace in Michail Antonio, who has scored 5 times after Bilic replaced the Italian with him.
With their star player Dimitri Payet also having a lacklustre patch, the Hammers have become toothless failing to pose threat to any opponent and Bilic desperately needs reinforcements in January to get any chance of a last-ditch saving of the season.
T4O looks at 3 potential strikers West Ham United could target this winter.
Lukasz Teodorczyk- The Polish International is currently playing at Belgian side Anderlecht. The striker is said to be as good as Lewandowski and has already scored 14 goals this season for the club. Premier League side Stoke City, Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and even Championship side Aston Villa are all trying to land the highly rated striker. He is at the moment rated at 12 million pounds. At 185cm, Teodorczyk could be a towering presence in West Ham’s forward line.
Manolo Gabbiadini- Bilic is already looking to dispose Zaza well ahead of the end of his loan tenure. The Hammers are ready to hand over their summer signing to Serie A side Napoli and an amount of £22.5m in return for striker Manolo Gabbiadini.
Although Gabbiadini has scored only 1 goal in the Champions League and 1 in Serie A this season, his versatility makes him a decent attacking option up front and with players like Dmitri Payet and Lanzini to combine with, Bilic has high hopes for this Italian forward.
Daniel Sturridge- Sturridge has earlier been linked with the Hammers in the summer but the deal could not go through. With Firmino and Origi getting the nod over the England International, Sturridge is more likely to find other options than sit on the bench.
He has bagged 4 goals for Liverpool in the League cup but has failed to open his account in Premier league. The agile striker has found no place in Klopp’s first squad. The striker could come in handy for West Ham and Bilic might get the striker for not that big a fee.
