Premier League giants Manchester United were unable to secure a victory in their Europa League round of 32 fixture, as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium. The Red Devils laboured to seize control of possession for most of the fixture, and both goals were the result of defensive errors. Anthony Martial levelled up for United in the first half, after Emmanuel Bonaventure opened the scoring early on for the home side.
Manchester United Players Rated In Tight Draw Vs Club Brugge
Sergio Romero – 6
The Argentine shot-stopper should’ve arguably stayed on his line in the lead up to the Brugge goal, but didn’t do too much else wrong. Collected well from set-pieces and looked composed.
Victor Lindelof – 5.5
The centre-half had one of his worst outings in a United shirt on the night as he gave the ball away on multiple occasions. Needs to work on his defensive positioning while tracking back.
Harry Maguire – 6.5
The Englishman put in a composed display at the heart of the defence, and he wasn’t overly troubled by the two Brugge strikers. Made some vital interceptions in the final third as well.
Luke Shaw – 6
Gave the ball away carelessly on a couple of occasions, but showed attacking drive. Made some good tracking runs in the second half as well.
Diogo Dalot – 6
The youngster was unable to impact the tie in an attacking perspective, owing largely to the fact that Ole’s side weren’t able to take control of the game. Played a couple of neat passes from wide areas.
Andreas Pereira – 5
The Brazilian midfielder put in yet another lacklustre display in Belgium, as he was unable to create anything meaningful in the final third. Wasteful and aimless with his forward passing too.
Brandon Williams – 5.5
The teenager has been playing in a lot of fixtures over recent weeks, and the need to play at wing-back today did tire him out. Worked hard defensively and got forward whenever possible too.
Juan Mata – 7
The Spaniard was easily United’s most productive player on the evening, despite the alarming lack of quality in the final third that seemed to be running through the entire team tonight.
Jesse Lingard – 4
The Englishman continues to disappoint every time he features for United, as he was unbelievably wasteful on the ball. Has to be offloaded by United in the summer transfer window surely.
Anthony Martial – 7
The Frenchman worked hard to try and close the Brugge centre-halves all night and got his just reward with an absolute gift of a goal. Came close again with a strike that came off the post.
Substitutes
Odion Ighalo – 6
The striker tried to make himself a nuisance on the Brugge defenders for the twenty-odd minutes he was on the pitch but wasn’t able to directly affect the tie in any manner.
Fred – 6
Passed the ball around well and looked to release the forwards at every opportunity as well. Didn’t have to do too much defensively as United saw through the last few minutes with ease.
Bruno Fernandes – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
