Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side suffered their eleventh league defeat of the campaign after an abysmal second-half display against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team. The Magpies started the game on the front foot and had multiple opportunities to open the scoring all through the first half. The Gunners came out in the second period looking a lot more purposeful and put the Magpies to the sword by scoring four efficient goals on the night.

Martin Dubravka – 6.5
The Slovakian shot-stopper was completely helpless regarding the quick-fire Arsenal goals in the second half but did manage a couple of important saves over the ninety.
Valentino Lazaro – 5
The Austrian full-back had a highly impressive first-half during his full Newcastle debut. Looked shellshocked by Saka’s movement in the second period of the fixture though.
Federico Fernandez – 6
The centre-half stood his ground well and marked his men well from set-pieces. Didn’t allow the Arsenal attackers too much running room in behind the defence on his side.
Jamaal Lascelles – 6
The Englishman put up a solid display in the heart of the defence and wasn’t directly at fault for none of the Arsenal goals. Should’ve made a couple of more interceptions in the defensive third.
Ciaran Clark – 5.5
The centre-half was presented with the most glorious opportunity of the night in the second half, only for his shot from point-blank range to take a deflection off David Luiz and spin out for a corner.
Danny Rose – 5.5
The Tottenham loanee was given an extremely hostile reception at the Emirates Stadium, but he didn’t do too much wrong on this occasion. Did play a couple of loose passes late on though.
Miguel Almiron – 6.5
The Paraguayan international speedster worked extremely hard to try and make things happen for Newcastle in the first half but had a much more subdued influence in the second period.
Sean Longstaff – 6
The elder of the Longstaff brothers, Sean moved the ball around effectively in the first half but showed signs of fatigue late on. Played a couple of neat passes out from the midfield area too.
Nabil Bentaleb – 7
The former Tottenham Hotspur man looks like an excellent signing for Steve Bruce’s side. He controlled the tempo of the game in the first half with his overall passing and movement.
Allan Saint-Maximin – 7
The tricky winger put in a proper shift all through the ninety minutes and was the one player who even came remotely close to scoring a goal. Struck a venomous shot that came back off the upright.
Joelinton – 5
The Brazilian’s struggles in front of goal continued as he wasted a couple of excellent opportunities to at least hit the target. Needs to improve his movement off the ball in the final third.
