Recent reports have emerged that out of form Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas could possibly go on a loan move to West Ham United. The Spanish midfielder has not fit into Conte’s tactics and has often come off the bench to play in most matches this season.
According to Mirror, Hammers could lose their star Dimitri Payet with many European giants eyeing the talismanic midfielder, which makes way for Fabregas going on loan to West Ham, in terms of getting a marquee player. West Ham are reportedly plotting the audacious move in January and with Chelsea prepared to subsidise his £160,000-a-week wages, the move could well be a possibility.
Fabregas has appeared 4 times this season creating only one assist. Although he put in decent performances in the English League Cup where he bagged 2 goals in 2 appearances, Conte looks unimpressed with him. And now with the club going five wins in a row with 0 goals conceded, the position for the midfielder in the Blues first squad looks a distant possibility.
The fact that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is looking to add more midfielders with stronger defensive attributes, Fabregas’ career at Chelsea is nearing the end. Another midfielder experiencing similar situation at Chelsea is John Obi Mikel.
West Ham United have struggled to keep up last season’s incredible form and much like the Chelsea of last season, they are close to a turmoil. After a brilliant season last year, West Ham have started rather disappointingly this year with club managing to get only 11 points in 11 games.
Cesc Fabregas is a brilliant midfielder, who is capable of producing impeccable passes in the attacking third. On his day, he is a real threat for the opponents, who could pull the strings from the deeper midfield role. He had a whopping 18 assists in Chelsea’s title-winning 2014/15 season but his performances haven’t been reaching the high standards he set that year.
West Ham’s midfield lacks such creativity although Fabregas is a totally different player as compared to Payet. Unlike Payet, who is a winger and looks to rely on his agility and strength, Fabregas is more of a central midfielder, who likes to recover the ball and provide the ball up front.
If West Ham do bid for him, Bilic is more likely to play Fabregas with Noble in the midfield. At 29, Fabregas still has a lot of play left in him. If Bilic does manage to get him on loan, it could be a season-turning deal for them.
Although Fabregas has to compete with the likes of Pedro Obiang for the first team, the Spanish midfielder is expected to make it.
