According to a recent report by the Russian news outlet Sport, AFC Ajax wide player Quincy Promes is attracting interest from Liverpool and Chelsea ahead of a potential move in the summer. The same source has also claimed that the Dutch outfit are demanding at least €40m for their prized asset after his successful spell in the Eredivisie this season.
Promes’ Eye-Catching Spell In The Dutch Top-Flight
Promes has finally managed to find some consistency in terms of goal-scoring since joining his hometown club from Sevilla last summer. Despite his struggles at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium where he scored just two goals in 33 league matches, the 28-year-old has turned his fortunes around for the better under Erik ten Hag’s stewardship this season.
The 28-year-old has netted 15 goals and grabbed five assists in 24 appearances for the Eredivisie giants this term on all fronts. Promes’ numbers indicate that his stock is on the rise. The former Spartak man is currently one of the most prolific wingers in European football. He has also averaged 3.0 shots, 1.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Dutch first division (stats via whoscored). The Amsterdam-born talent has successfully proven his critics wrong by finding a level of consistency at Ajax every week.
Promes loves to test the opposition keeper by having a few pops at goal and has a keen eye for a killer pass in the final third. However, the winger doesn’t attempt too many dribbles down the wide areas even though he is one of the quickest players in the Eredivisie.
Only father time can reveal whether Promes can keep those numbers up throughout the remainder of this campaign. After scoring seven goals in 40 appearances for the Netherlands, the ex-Twente playmaker has also justified his worth at the international level which served to enhance his reputation across Europe.
Will Promes Be A Decent Signing For The Champions Of Europe?
Promes is quite clever in the way he operates down the left flank as he picks and chooses his moments to make driving runs with the ball going forward. The Dutch speedster also has a good engine in him and is quite effective when tracking the danger inside his own half.
Recruiting someone of Promes’ qualities will undeniably be a massive coup for Liverpool. Furthermore, the presence of Georginio Wijnaldum and Virgil Van Dijk could help the Ajax winger make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if he opts to join the Reds in the future.
Promes’ addition will also give Jurgen Klopp a chance to rotate his squad a bit more in the coming years so that he can get the best out of his players week in week out. The likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino deserve a breather from time to time, so Promes’ versatility to play in any position across the frontline, will only help in resolving that issue at Anfield.
