According to Mirror, Paris Saint-Germain will again try to plot a move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in January after a deal supposedly failed in the summer. The need has arisen after a serious need of an attacking pair was felt to aid Edinson Cavani.
Romelu Lukaku has been an instrumental player for Everton this season and the Merseyside club are unlikely to let go of the player. But a big money deal could prove to be irresistible for the English club.
The Belgian striker has already scored 7 goals to his credit in the Premier League this season. He has also made 3 goals for the team, which shows how in-form the striker is at the moment.
PSG’s only centre-forward, Cavani, has picked up a thigh problem in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Rennes, which leaves the French giants without any real attacking threat. The only other option at the front is the young Jean-Kevin Augustin, who is only 19-years-old.
Former PSG boss Laurent Blanc was a staunch admirer of the Belgian forward and had tried to strike a deal for him last season, which fell through. However, current manager Unai Emery seems to share similar thoughts on Lukaku.
Everton, who had to shell out 35.36 million euros to get the striker back from Chelsea, won’t let the striker get off the hook so easily. He has recently crossed the 50 goals benchmark for the club and Koeman believes his form is the driving force in Everton’s campaign this season, who are trying to finish in the top half of the table after the past few seasons’ disappointing finishes.
Lukaku has shown tremendous maturity at the age of 23 and the 191 cm tall striker at present looks the perfect answer to Everton’s woes. The towering forward is the lynchpin of Everton’s attack, who holds the ball and feeds them brilliantly to the attackers like Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas.
Everton are currently seventh in the league table, collecting a decent 18 points from the opening 11 games. Although they recently suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at the hands of Lukaku’s former club, Chelsea, they will look to bounce back after the international break.
It would be very difficult for Everton to find a replacement for Lukaku and a move in January could have destructive consequences to their present campaign. Although unlike PSG, Everton have options in Enner Valencia, Arouna Kone, Leandro Rodriguez and Conor McAleny, none of them seems to be a potential replacement for the Belgian.
