In a recent column with The Times (subscription required), former Chelsea striker and talkSPORT pundit, Tony Cascarino urged Manchester United to make a move for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey, a player he reckons could be the ‘perfect fit’ for the Red Devils. Cascarino wrote on his column with the Times, “Ramsey would be the perfect fit for United.
“Ramsey played in Juventus’ defeat away to Verona on Saturday but it was fairly typical of his first season in Italy as he came on as a substitute and didn’t have an impact on the game.
“I can see the former Arsenal man back in the Premier League next season.
“Reports linking him to Manchester United make a lot of sense as he is the sort of player they need – a proven midfielder with goalscoring pedigree and plenty of Premier League experience.
“I could see him not costing too much, with Juventus possibly settling for £20 million as that would get them most of their outlay back.”
Ramsey’s Frustrations In Italian Football
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in dire need of strengthening his midfield options next summer with Jack Grealish and James Maddison already being linked with a move to Old Trafford. Ramsey is another dynamic box to box midfielder whose prior Premier League experience makes him a worthy candidate for Man United to consider ahead of the new campaign.
However, Ramsey’s struggles at the Juventus Stadium are quite apparent as he has failed to nail down a permanent place in Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI. He has only made 19 appearances for the Turin outfit this term, scoring two goals in the process. To his credit, the 29-year-old has averaged 1.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Serie A thus far (stats via whoscored).
Ramsey loves the freedom of operating as a box to box midfielder even though he is not the hardest worker at the centre of the park. The 58-time Wales international does not shy away from a challenge and is quite dynamic in the way he approaches the game in midfield. However, Sarri has failed to get the best out of him at Turin so the former Arsenal man might welcome a summer move to Old Trafford. After all, Ramsey’s quality is not in doubt as we all remember how good he was with Arsenal.
Should The Red Devils Orchestrate A Move For Ramsey?
Ramsey needs to figure out a way to get more game time in the coming weeks when the fixtures come thick and fast in all competitions. The Welsh midfielder has rarely played the full 90 minutes and has often been used off the bench, which doesn’t bode well for his long aspirations at Juventus.
Hence, Ramsey might welcome a chance to make a switch back to England in search of more game time while Man United could use him to bolster their squad depth. Solskjaer should consider making a move for the talented Welshman but only if he is planning to give him enough opportunities on the playing field.
