According to a recent report by The Sun, Bayern Munich are lining up a move to acquire the services of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino this summer. It is believed that the German giants have identified the Brazilian striker as an ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski who is set to turn 32 at the end of this campaign (via The Sun).
The same report suggests Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner fancies a move to Anfield next summer. The German forward’s arrival could leave the door open for Firmino to leave, with Bayern poised to make a £75m bid for his services (according to The Sun).
Firmino’s Impressive Season At Anfield
Firmino has enjoyed another productive campaign at Merseyside and is often at the heart of every good move that Liverpool have conjured up going forward. He is not a traditional centre-forward and often tends to interchange his position with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane up top. The Brazilian forward loves to drop deep and link up plays with others around him. He can be a constant menace in the opposition half.
The 28-year-old has registered ten goals and 12 assists in 36 matches for the Merseyside outfit this term in all competitions. The Liverpool number nine has also averaged 1.0 tackles, 3.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
What Does The Brazilian Striker Offer On The Pitch?
The forward has slowly established himself as a fan-favourite at Anfield and is often the man who leads the press in the opposition half. Klopp has managed to nurture Firmino into a world-class forward by giving him the license to express himself in the final third. The Brazil international can create chances out of nothing and is also a lethal finisher up top. Therefore, Klopp has no reason to let him go unless he signs a new forward before the start of the new campaign.
Why The Reds Cannot Allow Firmino To Leave Next Summer
Even though he is more accustomed to playing in the number ten position, Firmino has often been deployed as a forward in the recent past so he will likely welcome the added competition if Klopp manages to bring Werner to Anfield this summer. It will not only provide Liverpool with more flexibility in terms of their attacking options but will also bolster the depth of the Reds squad.
At 28, Firmino is currently playing at the top of his game, so there is no reason for Klopp to tinker with the winning formula when his team are doing so well in the Premier League.
