According to a recent update from the Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Tottenham Hotspur forward Troy Parrott has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal to extend his stay at North London.
McGrath posted a tweet which read, “Troy Parrott has agreed a three-year deal with Tottenham. Parrott, in the squad for yesterday’s FA Cup win over Southampton, turned 18 on Tuesday. #THFC will look at best way to progress now, loan or stay with Jose Mourinho’s squad at #Tottenham”
Parrott’s Gradual Rise In English Football
The Republic of Ireland footballer is yet to establish himself as a regular starter in the Spurs first-team. He has only been a sporadic feature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so far. The 18-year-old has made a total of two senior appearances for Spurs this term, playing a total of 71 minutes in the process. However, he is still waiting to score his first goal for the North London giants.
To his credit, Parrott has managed to represent Tottenham at various youth levels and has banged in 15 goals in 12 matches in the Under-18 Premier League this season. He has also earned one senior cap for the Republic of Ireland national side and is destined to play a vital role for his nation in the coming years.
What Are The Spurs Youngster’s Best Attributes?
Parrott has decent pace but is still quite a raw talent, so he often tends to lose the ball when dribbling with it out of tight spaces in the opposition half. He has a good leap in him and is a lethal finisher in the final third. However, the Irish striker still has a lot to learn before he can take a step up to the Premier League level.
Parrott’s Contract Extension: Wise Move For Spurs?
At the moment, he is nowhere near good enough to fill in Harry Kane’s boots during the England international’s injury absence. However, Parrott can use his time in the training ground to learn a lot from Jose Mourinho so that he can prove his worth and earn a few first-team opportunities at North London in the coming weeks. The Portuguese manager has done well to tie him up on a new deal.
With his immediate future sorted, the Republic of Ireland striker can now focus on improving his overall game so that he can represent Tottenham at the highest level week in week out.
