Rangers faced off against Hibernian earlier tonight hoping to pick up maximum points in front of the home supporters inside the Ibrox Stadium. The Glaswegian outfit began the game on the front foot but conceded an early goal thanks to Hibernian’s Paul Hanlon, who opened the goal-scoring in the 35th minute. However, Sam Edmundson equalised for the home team just before the half-time break to set-up an exciting second half in Glasgow.
Steven Gerrard’s men racked up the pressure early in the second half but struggled to breakdown the Hibernian defence. However, Ianis Hagi managed to make the crucial breakthrough in the 83rd minute to win the game for his side by a narrow 2-1 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Rangers player fared during the contest versus Hibernian.
GK: Allan McGregor – 6/10
The Gers keeper had a few saves to make, but he did enough to restrict the visiting side from scoring more than once tonight. However, he was at fault for allowing the opposition to score so early in the game.
RB: James Tavernier – 6/10
The Rangers captain won a few freekicks during the 90 minutes and was unfortunate not to have hit the target with his attempt in the second half. However, his first-half display was disappointing, to say the least.
CB: Connor Goldson – 6/10
He committed some cheap fouls early on but showed enough character to put in a much-improved display in the second 45. Goldson also got an assist to show for his efforts and did enough to keep Doidge quiet tonight.
CB: George Edmundson – 7/10
He managed to score the all-important equaliser just before half-time. Otherwise, he was a constant nuisance for the opposition even though he got cautioned in the first half for committing too many fouls.
LB: Borna Barisic – 6.5/10
Barisic won a few freekicks in the first half and went close to scoring with his shot in the second. He will be happy with the three points in the end after another energetic display down the left flank.
CM: Scott Arfield – 6/10
The Gers midfield ace squandered some decent opportunities to score, but he was not shy of getting stuck in with the challenges which made life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park.
CM: Steven Davis – 6.5/10
Davis helped his side push on for the winner in the second half and showed commitment to the cause by putting in a brave display in Gerrard’s midfield. However, he lacked creativity with his forward passes which will be a concern for Gerrard.
CM: Ianis Hagi – 8/10
Hagi kept his composure to pop up with the winning goal in the 83rd minute when he scored with a brilliant finish.
RM: Joe Aribo – 5.5/10
He started the game well but was guilty of consistently fouling the opposition. Aribo ran out of ideas in the second half and was justifiably subbed in the second 45.
ST: Alfredo Morelos – 7/10
Despite missing a plethora of chances, the Colombian striker never gave up and won several freekicks in the Hibernian half to give his teammates a breather from time to time.
LM: Ryan Kent – 5/10
Kent came close to finding the back of the net with his early attempt but was largely a frustrated figure up top.
Substitutes:
CM: Greg Stewart – 6/10
He did not show enough quality after coming on for the final quarter of the game.
LM: Jordan Jones – 5/10
Jones came off the bench to run the clock down for his side.
CM: Glen Kamara – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
