According to the reports from Manchester Evening News, Paul Pogba has told his Manchester United teammates that he still wants to leave the club in the summer. The French midfielder has struggled with injuries this season. The report mentions that Real Madrid and Juventus are still interested in the World Cup Winner. The story citing the dressing room sources adds that Pogba’s ‘head is not currently at the club’.
Pogba’s unsettling last few months at Old Trafford
The 26-year-old revealed in the summer of 2019 that he wanted a new challenge. The midfielder was willing to leave the Manchester giants. However, United kept hold of their player given his importance in the first team.
His agent Mino Raiola and Manchester United don’t have the best of relationship at the moment, and the agent had said that he wouldn’t bring anyone to Manchester United.
All this can be a positive update for Real Madrid who have been linked with him consistently in the past year. Zinedine Zidane is said to be an admirer of the midfielder. Moreover, Madrid would require adding more firepower in the middle as the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are closing in on the last phase of their career.
Pogba would undoubtedly be a massive coup for Madrid, but he is likely going to cost over £100m. Reports say that he was valued around £180m last summer. However, his value might have dwindled now with his contract running down.
A good pick for Zidane?
The Frenchman was expected to bring United back to their glory days, but it is fair to say that hasn’t happened. Nevertheless, he would be an excellent signing for Real Madrid. Moreover, the less intense style of the La Liga should suit him further. Pogba can go on marauding runs, and he can pick out a killer pass to open up defences. He is physically strong and can outmuscle almost anyone. However, his work ethic and commitment have been under the scanner.
The midfield partnership of Federico Valverde, Casemiro and Pogba can work well for Real Madrid. 26-year-old Pogba is still in his prime, and he can have an immense impact on whichever clubs he joins next. United were unwilling to sell him last summer, but the club have brought in a creative player in Bruno Fernandes this January.
Hence, we believe that there is a good chance that the Red Devils might sanction a move for Pogba now that they have a like for like replacement ready for him. Zidane should definitely look to pounce on this opportunity.
