Liverpool will entertain Shrewsbury Town at Anfield on Tuesday night hoping to progress into the next round of the FA Cup by securing a victory. The Reds will come into this contest on the back of a 4-0 win over Southampton on Saturday.
However, Jurgen Klopp and his first-team stars will be on their mid-season break so Neil Critchley will take charge of this game as he names his Under-23 team to get the job done in midweek.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Shrewsbury Town
Defence
Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal for the Reds. Ki-Jana Hoever will play alongside Sepp van den Berg at the heart of the Liverpool defence. The centre-back pair will look to replicate the form of the senior players as they try to restrict the Shrewsbury attackers from scoring in midweek.
Neco Williams should return to feature in the right-back position while Yasser Larouci will operate on the other side as the left-back. Both Liverpool full-backs will focus on pressing high up the pitch so that they can win the ball back quickly and create some decent goal-scoring opportunities on the counter.
Critchley will instruct his defenders to keep a high line so that they can make full use of the off-side trap.
Midfield
Pedro Chirivella will marshall the Liverpool midfield as he looks to put in a tireless shift at the centre of the park. His job will be to create plays for others around him and maybe, play a long ball or two to Elliott from time to time if the winger can make a few well-timed runs in the final third.
Curtis Jones is currently in a rich vein of form after scoring in both of his team’s FA Cup matches this season. He will once again be a potent goal-threat from midfield while Elijah Dixon-Bonner fills in as the other midfielder down the right.
Attack
Thomas Hill and Harvey Elliott will look to stretch the pitch out on the flanks while Luis Longstaff leads the charge for the Reds down the middle. Elliott will be Critchley’s best hope for a goal on Tuesday night while Dal Varesanovic and Jack Bearne will look to make an impact off the bench.
