Rangers hosted Aberdeen at Ibrox, and they managed to put up another dull display resulting in a 0-0 draw in the end. The Gers are yet to put up a convincing performance after the winter break, and the team seems to be devoid of any creativity.
The home team had some chances in the first half with Morelos and Arfield coming close. Aberdeen defended doggedly and kept it 0-0.
The second half was more of the same, but Aberdeen had some big chances to nick the game. However, McGregor stood up and pulled out some useful saves to keep his side’s chances of winning alive. But, no one at the other end of the pitch was able to create that spark to break down Aberdeen and Rangers fell further behind in the title race.
Rangers Players Rated As They Falter To Draw Vs Aberdeen
Allan McGregor 8
The only player who stood out and probably a man of the match performance from him as he made some big saves to keep Rangers in the game.
Matt Polster 6.5
Has definitely cemented the second choice right-back spot after some of his recent displays. Polster did his job defensively. Wasn’t able to provide that driving run from the right which Rangers often get from Tavernier.
Nikola Katic 7
Defended astutely and got the job done to see out the cleansheet.
Connor Goldson 6.5
Was caught on the counter a few times but that was understandable with Rangers pushing men forward. Looked composed and assured.
Borna Barisic 5
Has often been the difference-maker this season but wasn’t able to find that perfect cross. Over-hit quite a few balls from the left.
Steven Davis 4
Hasn’t been at his best for quite a few games now. Failed to move the ball swiftly. Needs to bring his experience in games like these.
Glen Kamara 3
Failed to provide any quality on the ball. Misplaced a few passes and Aberdeen were able to keep him in check. Seemed lost in midfield and got substituted around the hour mark.
Scott Arfield 6
Looked lively from time to time and linked up play well. Managed a few chances but was denied by Aberdeen’s goalkeeper.
Ryan Kent 5
Often tried to overdo things. These are the kind of games why Rangers paid big money for him, but Kent was unable to find the breakthrough even though he toiled hard. Credit to Aberdeen for marshalling him well.
Joe Aribo 5
Again credit to Aberdeen for closing him down quickly as he wasn’t given much time to work his magic in the attacking half. Tried a few things but wasn’t able to create much.
Alfredo Morelos 5
One of those games where he needed to be more clinical as Rangers failed to get many clear cut chances. Morelos had a few decent chances, but Joe Lewis denied him time and again.
Substitutes
Sheyi Ojo 3
Didn’t provide any cutting edge after coming on. Seemed out of energy even though he came on as a substitute.
Ianis Hagi 6
Looked positive on the ball and tried to get it forward.
Florian Kamberi N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
