Premier League high-flyers Chelsea held third place Leicester City to a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon capped off by a brilliant display from German centre-half Antonio Rudiger. After a thoroughly entertaining yet goalless first-half, the big defender opened the scoring for the Blues, before Harvey Barnes scored the equaliser. Ben Chilwell then gave the Foxes the lead, after which it was Rudiger who stepped up again to make it 2-2.
Chelsea Players Rated In Nail-Biting Draw Vs Leicester City
Willy Caballero – 6.5
The Argentine veteran was preferred to Kepa by Frank Lampard tonight, and he didn’t do too much to advocate the manager’s decision. Should’ve done better with the second Leicester goal.
Reece James – 8
The speedster was on top of his game in the first half as he delivered some special crosses into the box. Had to defend a lot more in the second period but supported well in attack as well.
Antonio Rudiger – 9
The German was a beast at the back today as he didn’t allow the ever-dangerous Jamie Vardy any chance to run at him with pace. Scored both Chelsea goals and was superb overall.
Andreas Christensen – 8
The Dane had a couple of questionable moments in the heart of the defence but did well to come back in the second half. Positioned himself well apart from a momentary lapse that could’ve cost them.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 7.5
The Spaniard was picking up uncharacteristically attacking positions in the first half as the Blues pushed for the opener. Showed all his experience and know-how on multiple occasions.
Jorginho – 7
The Italian wasn’t able to inject too much pace to the Blues attacking play owing to the Foxes’ dynamic pressing approach to the defensive aspect of the game. He was substituted in the second period.
N’Golo Kante – 7.5
The Frenchman looked like a man on a mission while going forward at times, but could’ve improved his decision making. Defended superbly through the phases where Leicester began to take control.
Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6.5
The youngster had a couple of promising moments in the first half but slowly faded out of the game. Needs to show more conviction once he enters the final third, and should release the ball sooner.
Mason Mount – 6
The Englishman delivered two neat balls for Rudiger to head home but was generally poor this afternoon. Struggled to link up play and carelessly gave the ball away too.
Pedro – 6.5
The Spaniard is far from his best right now as he struggled to complete any take-ons. Tried to move the team forward in the first half but had to be taken off in the second period.
Tammy Abraham – 6.5
The big striker had two excellent chances to open the scoring in the first half but couldn’t find the finishing touch. Didn’t complete the entire ninety minutes as he was playing with an injury.
Substitutes
Willian – 6
The Brazilian was thrown on as the Blues looked for the winner, but he wasn’t able to create anything meaningful in the final third. Needs to improve his end-product.
Mateo Kovacic – 6.5
The Croatian linked up play extremely well after coming on, and he showed good defensive instinct in the latter stages of the game as well.
Ross Barkley – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
