In a recent post on Twitter, The Athletic’s Andy Naylor provided an update on Brighton and Hove Albion’s pursuit of SC Amiens forward Serhou Guirassy and said, ‘An “interesting young player” they have been aware of for a while. The agent appears to be pushing hard to get a deal done.’
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it seems unlikely that the Seagulls will be able to get a deal done this month. Graham Potter has built a solid foundation at the Amex Stadium but needs to add more quality to his squad if he wants his players to compete for silverware in the coming years.
Guirassy’ Mediocre Spell In The French Top-Flight This Season
Guirassy had endured a lacklustre season in French football as he has struggled to find consistency with regards to his performances on the field. He has featured in 18 matches for Luka Elsner’s side this term, scoring five goals while providing one assist in all competitions. The 23-year-old has averaged 1.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1 (stats via whoscored).
The talented forward has represented France at various youth levels but is yet to earn a senior cap for his nation. However, he is destined to have a very bright future in European football if he can continue making progress with each season.
What Does The French Attacker Offer On The Pitch?
Guirassy boasts decent pace and can make some penetrative runs in the final third. He has remarkable upper body strength which allows him to hold the ball up and get others involved up top. However, the French youngster is still quite raw and would need time to develop into a top talent.
Should The East Sussex Outfit Orchestrate A Move For Guirassy?
Potter has got some terrific attacking players in his squad with the likes of Glenn Murray, Aaron Connolly and Neal Maupay fighting it out for the right to lead the charge at Brighton week in week out. The addition of Guirassy would have only added more competition for them at the Amex Stadium heading into the second half of this campaign.
Even if the Seagulls fail to sign him this month, they should still consider making a move for the Ligue 1 marksman’s services next summer.
