According to a recent report by The Evening Standard, Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are said to have rejected a bid from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven for the services of one of their most important players. It has been suggested that the Eredivisie giants sent a transfer offer to the Eagles earlier in the week, with a view of potentially re-signing Dutch full-back Patrick Van Aanholt in January.
The report claims that the Dutch outfit lodged a derogatory bid in the region of £4.2m for the youngster’s services – a price that is sure to have Roy Hodgson fuming in the backroom. The former Chelsea man has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers over the last couple of seasons and is surely the worth more than twice of what the Dutch club have currently offered. Despite this, it has been suggested that the Eagles will not be selling their man in January for a variety of extremely valid reasons.
What Is Van Aanholt’s Legacy In the Premier League?
The 29-year-old first rose to fame when he was identified as a potential talent by Chelsea at a very young age. Having been acquired from Den Bosch and eased into the U18s set up in West London, the youngster was quick to earn a name for himself within the first team.
He was forced to spend multiple seasons away from Stamford Bridge on loan but was given a few opportunities at Chelsea as well. The Blues’ academy graduate played eight times for the first-team and even has a goal to show for his time at SW6.
The Dutchman was sold to Sunderland by Chelsea in the summer of 2014, before being acquired by Palace as an improved player in 2017. He was a different footballer after his move to Selhurst Park as maturity is what stood out in him ahead of all the other attributes. The former PSV man has now featured in just under 100 appearances for Crystal Palace and is an integral part of Roy Hodgson’s setup at the club.
Why Crystal Palace Just Cannot Afford To Sell Van Aanholt?
The Dutchman has unquestionably been one of the Eagles’ most consistent players over the last few seasons, and saying that they would’ve had the same success without him is probably a pretty far-fetched statement. The former Leicester City loanee continues to be amongst the deadliest left-backs in the entire league and has all the qualities to perform at the highest level for many years to come.
The Eagles’ season has undoubtedly been a mixed bag, and although they were cruising at one point during the term, they will do well to ensure that no key players are lost in January. The Dutchman has played in 17 league games this season and has even popped up with two goals of his own. With Eredivisie giants PSV offering a disgraceful fee of £4.2m for the speedster’s services, Roy Hodgson will do well to ensure that his first-team is kept intact going into what could be the most important part of the season.
