According to a recent report by The Daily Express, renowned Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed in a recent tweet that Premier League high-flyers Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Polish international striker Krzysztof Piatek in January. It has been claimed that the Blues are looking at alternatives to fill the void that is going to be left by the imminent departure of Olivier Giroud, and that the Stamford Bridge board is considering Piatek.
The tweet claims that Chelsea have been offered Piatek by the player’s agents and that their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also involved in the race for the youngster’s signature. It further says that Giroud is inching closer towards a move to Inter Milan and that it would then open up space at Chelsea for Piatek to fill into. The report suggests that the Polish striker is rated in the region of £27m – a figure that the Blues would be more than comfortable shelling out in January.
What Makes Piatek An Attractive Target For Chelsea?
Despite the unexpected resurgence of English sensation Tammy Abraham, saying the Blues have been struggling for attacking creativity and precision at times this season wouldn’t be overstating it. They have looked toothless upfront during some fixtures, and the lack of a back-up option in front of goal has deprived Lampard’s team of the killer instinct required to finish games of in the Premier League.
Krzysztof Piatek would be a fairly reasonable solution to a lot of the gaffer’s problems at Stamford Bridge. The Polish international isn’t as tall as Abraham but offers a lot of physical presence in the opposition box. The striker has become renowned for his excellent finishing in and around the box, and his ability to beat the goalkeepers from the most outrageous of angles. The youngster has scored 35 goals in 61 appearances since moving to the Serie A, further highlighting the sheer quality that he brings to the table.
Why Chelsea Must Sign Krzysztof Piatek In January?
The Blues have been lacking the presence of another striker so far this season. Despite Michy Batshuayi’s best attempts at covering for Abraham, the Belgian doesn’t provide enough in the final third for Lampard to be able to depend on him regularly. With Olivier Giroud’s move to Inter now looking likely as well, it would make sense for Chelsea to splurge.
Piatek would make an excellent addition to this Chelsea team because of his ability to run the channels. The Polish striker is adept at keeping himself onside while making runs in between defenders, and could come to form excellent relationships with players like Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic because of their forward passing
The Blues have finally found a striker worth holding onto in Abraham, but overplaying the Englishman during his first season at the highest level could be asking for trouble. Coupled with Piatek’s quality, this investment makes complete sense for Chelsea at this point in time.
