According to a recent report by The Sunday Express (via The Daily Star), Manchester City have already launched an enquiry over the availability of Rennes whizkid Eduardo Camavinga this month or at the end of this campaign.
The same source has mentioned that the French youngster is currently on the Citizens’ radar with other top clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also showing interest in acquiring his services. Pep Guardiola will have a real battle on his hands if he intends to win the race to land the talented teenager in the future.
Camavinga’s Impressive Season In French Football
The 17-year-old has managed to establish himself as a regular feature in Julien Stéphan’s midfield after putting in a few eye-catching performances for the French outfit in all competitions. He has registered one goal and one assist in 26 matches for the Ligue 1 side this term on all fronts.
The Rennes youth product has averaged 4.7 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.7 dribbles per game in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored). He has also represented France in the Under-21 level but is yet to earn his first senior cap for his nation.
What Will The French Midfield Ace Add To Guardiola’s Side?
Despite his inexperience, Camavinga has shown a lot of growth by putting in a consistent run of performances for Rennes this season. He excels at making tackles to win possession back for his side and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when under pressure from the opposition. He has also added goals and assists to his game in this campaign which is always a good sign.
The Counter Argument
However, Camavinga is still quite raw and has not experienced playing competitive football outside France. Therefore, he might struggle to cope with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football.
Is Camavinga Worth Fighting For In The Transfer Market?
The Citizens are in dire need of a new defensive midfielder with Fernandinho edging closer towards the end of his career. Hence, Camavinga will be worth fighting for in the transfer market as he is an incredible young talent who has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. The French wonderkid will be well worth the fight even though he might struggle to get into Guardiola’s first-team at the moment.
