According to Guardian, Newcastle United manager, Steve Bruce is keen on securing the services of Danny Rose. The Englishman has contacted Tottenham Hotspur regarding the possibility of signing the left-back in a short-term loan deal. There has been a fallout between Jose Mourinho and Rose, of late and it remains to be seen whether or not Spurs allow to leave the defender on loan.
Rose’s struggles at Tottenham in recent years
Despite Tottenham’s immense growth in recent years, Rose has had a difficult spell, filled with injuries and lack of game-time. Since 2017, the defender has suffered from four different spells on the sidelines, including an ACL injury that kept him out for almost the entirety of 2017.
As a result, Rose is yet to muster over 2,000 minutes of league football since the 2016/17 campaign. It has even led to Ben Davies becoming the premier left-back for Tottenham, although the Welshman has missed a chunk of the ongoing 2019/20 campaign due to injuries.
And recently, Rose has been reportedly involved in a fallout with Mourinho. And with his contract expiring in 18 months, his long-term future at Tottenham hangs in the balance.
Should Tottenham offload Rose?
Tottenham sanctioning Rose’s temporary departure would depend on a lot of things. First and foremost, it is fair to point out that the Lilywhites lack the presence of a viable option at left-back at the moment, especially with Davies struggling with injury. Mourinho has used Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon in that role, but neither of them is an out and out left-back.
That means Spurs must sign a replacement if they are to offload Rose in this January transfer window. And that could be a difficult task given the competitive nature of the transfer market. Not to mention, bringing in an inexperienced left-back would be no less than a risk, especially compared to Rose, who has an extensive amount of experience at the highest level of football.
Therefore, it would perhaps be wiser for Mourinho to keep hold of Rose this season and look to bring him back to the first-team. His return to form could help the north London giants recover from a difficult start to the year and even help them perform in the UEFA Champions League in this second half of the campaign.
