Manchester United will face off against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Sunday looking to book a place in the next round of the FA Cup. The Red Devils will come into this clash on the back of a dismal 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley in midweek.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will expect his players to bounce back against Tranmere and will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation this weekend.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Tranmere Rovers
Defence
Sergio Romero will operate in goal for the Red Devils as Solskjaer gives David De Gea some well-deserved rest. Harry Maguire could continue his defensive partnership with Phil Jones at the heart of the Man United backline. The centre-back duo will be expected to put in a solid defensive performance as they try to restrict the home side from scoring this weekend.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will get the nod to start as the right-back while Brandon Williams gets another chance to shine in the left-back position. Both Victor Lindelof and Axel Tuanzebe are unlikely to recover in time to feature in this match so Solskjaer will be a bit short of options in defence.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic will continue to feature alongside Fred in the holding midfield positions. They will both be responsible for providing adequate protection to the Red Devils backline. The talented trio of Daniel James, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata will play just ahead of them as part of the Man United attack.
Mata has been amongst the goals for his team of late so he will fancy his chances when he laces up to face Tranmere at Prenton Park. However, both James and Lingard are struggling to perform at a high level, so this match could be another opportunity for them to justify their worth in Solskjaer’s first-team.
Attack
Mason Greenwood could get another chance to lead the charge up top in the absence of the injured Marcus Rashford. Anthony Martial might be rested in this game as he has been heavily involved in recent weeks.
