In a recent interview following Olympique Lyonnais’ victory over LOSC Lille on Tuesday night (via The Metro), Moussa Dembele addressed his future and said, ‘I am a Lyon player and I will remain so until the end of the season.

‘Lots of things are being said. ‘It is up to me to ignore that and remain concentrated on the pitch.’
Foot Mercato had reported earlier this week that Manchester United were working on making an initial offer of £43m plus bonuses to bring the French striker to Old Trafford. So the Lyon marksman’s latest comments will be a bitter pill to swallow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who continues to struggle in recruiting new players this winter.
Why Man United Need To Sign A New Forward In January
The Red Devils fell to their eighth defeat of this Premier League campaign as they lost to Burnley by a 2-0 scoreline on Wednesday. Man United’s need to sign a new striker was clear for everyone to see at Old Trafford last night. Solskjaer currently has Anthony Martial as his only fit senior forward with the youngster Mason Greenwood getting a lot of game time in recent weeks because of the injury to Marcus Rashford.
Dembele would have been a perfect mid-season signing for them as he is a prolific goal-scorer, who has proven his worth at the highest level for quite some time now. With less than two weeks left in this winter transfer window, Man United will be in a race against time to bring in some quality reinforcements before the end of this month.
Dembele’s Excellent Form At Lyon
Dembele has banged in 15 goals and registered five assists in 29 appearances for Lyon this term in all competitions. The French frontman has averaged 2.1 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per match in the French top-flight this season (stats via whoscored). His incredible form for Rudi Garcia’s team has raised his stock significantly in the European market so it would be tough for Man United to land him next summer.
Dembele Rules Out Old Trafford Move In January: Big Blow For The English Giants?
Missing out on Dembele this month will be a massive blow for the Red Devils and their long-term ambitions as a football club. Solskjaer cannot afford to keep striking out on his transfer targets. The Norwegian head coach risks getting the sack if things don’t change for the better at the Theatre of Dreams soon.
Unless the Mancunian outfit can quickly find a suitable striker in the transfer market, they would be in for a world of trouble considering the injury crisis they are enduring at the moment.
