Tottenham Hotspur played hosts to Norwich City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier tonight hoping to pick up maximum points in front of their home supporters. Spurs managed to get themselves ahead in the 38th minute via Dele Alli’s goal. The home side went into the half-time one goal to the good.
The Canaries refused to give up without a fight and found the equaliser in the 70th minute courtesy of Teemu Pukki’s penalty. However, Heung-min Son gave his team the lead again just nine minutes later to break the hearts of the travelling Norwich supporters. The match ended with the North London giants securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over their Norfolk opponents.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player fared during the contest against the Canaries.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6/10
The French goalie had a few nervy moments at the back. He came close to stopping Pukki’s penalty but was not strong enough to pull off the save.
RB: Serge Aurier – 7.5/10
The Spurs right-back was a constant threat down the right flank and whipped in a couple of inviting crosses into the Norwich box. He did his defensive duties as well which will please Mourinho.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 7/10
The Belgian centre-back had a decent game at the heart of the Spurs defence and did enough to restrict the Canaries to just one goal.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 5/10
Vertonghen had a tough outing tonight as he was caught out of position quite a few times which left his team exposed at the back.
LB: Ryan Sessegnon – 4/10
The talented teenager struggled to cope with the threat of the Norwich attackers down the wide areas. He gave away a cheap penalty when he fouled Aarons to put his side in a world of trouble.
CM: Giovani Lo Celso – 9/10
The Argentine midfield ace put his best performance in a Tottenham shirt tonight. He was outstanding with his ball-distribution, and his work ethic was second to none on the field. He also won back possession for his team and was involved in most of the build-up in the opposition half.
CM: Harry Winks – 5.5/10
The English talent put an industrious display at the centre of the park but had to go off with an injury after the half-time break.
RM: Erik Lamela – 5/10
The Argentine winger tried to influence the game but was lacklustre in the final third. He was subbed after the hour mark.
CAM: Dele Alli – 7.5/10
The English playmaker made a quiet start to the contest before breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute. He was also involved in the build-up to Son’s winning goal in the second half.
LM: Heung-Min Son – 6.5/10
The South Korean international missed a plethora of goal-scoring opportunities before finally making amends in the 79th minute when he scored with a header from close range.
ST: Lucas Moura – 5/10
The Brazilian speedster tried to make things happen but was largely a frustrated figure in the Norwich half.
Substitutes:
CM: Eric Dier – 5/10
He had some sloppy moments but did enough to help his side emerge victorious in the end.
CM: Christian Eriksen – 4/10
The Danish midfielder failed to create anything of worth after coming off the bench.
CM: Gedson Fernandes – 6/10
He was full of energy and running in midfield.
