Arsenal had to be content with a point as the season’s first North London derby finished all square with the score 1-1. Ironically, both the goals were scored by Spurs players as a Kevin Wimmer own goal gave Arsenal the lead. But Tottenham made a sort of comeback in the 2nd half and were rewarded for an improved performance as Koscielny’s clumsy challenge on Mousa Dembele got them a penalty which was duly dispatched by the new-age derby hero Harry Kane.
Arsenal had the chance to go up top with Manchester City dropping points, but their main men were not at their best today and the final ball at the end of a lot of counter-attacks was missing. Nevertheless, Arsenal will head into the International break in a good position and will look to come back fresh with the anti-climactic feel of the North London Derby out of the way.
Let us take a look at how the Gunners rated in the 1-1 draw.
CECH- 6.5/10
Had a few nervy moments late on but was also at hand to make crucial saves from Eriksen’s and Janssen’s efforts.
BELLERIN-7/10
Was always available on Walcott’s outside and made a fine tackle on Son in the 2nd half.
MUSTAFI-5/10
One of his worst showings in an Arsenal shirt. Shaky and unnerved by the occasion. Outrun by Son easily and lacking command in the air.
KOSCIELNY-5.5/10
Not his best game of the season. Much more is expected of him. His challenge gave the penalty to Spurs. Booked.
MONREAL-6.5/10
Timely return after missing out against Sunderland. Showed his defensive prowess and denied Kane with an important challenge.
