According to the reports from Diario Gol, Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has reportedly spoken to Barcelona’s executives for a possible move for the French star. Pogba has struggled with injuries for Manchester United this season. The World Cup winner had publicly revealed in the summer that he wanted to leave Manchester United. However, the Red Devils were not keen to sanction a move for him then.
Real Madrid and Juventus are also said to be interested in the midfielder. The report mentions that Raiola is betraying Real Madrid and Florentino Perez by offering the 26-year-old to Barcelona. It remains to be seen whether the stories hold any truth or not.
Why should Barcelona be on the lookout for a midfielder?
It cannot be ignored that Barcelona could do with a bit of steel and grit in midfield. They have often been bypassed and ran over in midfield areas in the past year. Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal are on a downward trajectory, and both of them have been guilty of not being able to win the midfield battle.
Will Pogba be a good bet?
Pogba’s form has been an enigma at Manchester United. The midfielder on his day can call the shots in the middle and create and score goals. But he has also frustrated everyone with his lackadaisical attitude and lack of commitment on occasions. Nevertheless, we still believe that the French international would be an excellent addition to Barcelona’s setup.
The Frenchman has an eye for a pass, and he has the strength and physicality to go on marauding runs. The less intense game of the La Liga might suit him further. Playing alongside talented attackers like Griezmann and Messi could also lure him to Barcelona.
However, he is likely going to cost a bomb, and it remains to be seen whether Barcelona would pay that kind of transfer fee for him. Manchester United too would want to keep hold of him, but it seems to us that the Frenchman might push for a move away again in the upcoming summer.
Rakitic and Vidal are both in their thirties, and they would need replacing soon. Barcelona are still looking for that control in midfield ever since the departure of Andres Iniesta. The club has made some big money signings like Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho in recent past, but both of them haven’t lived up to their expectations. Hence, we believe that Barcelona could be sceptical about spending big money again. Nevertheless, Pogba has the talent, and he is a proven player at the top level.
