According to the reports from Lancs Live, Leeds United are preparing to launch an ambitious bid for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen. Newcastle United are also said to be interested along with Burnley. It is believed that Leeds United would pay a £3m loan fee to sign the winger on loan initially and if they get promoted to the top flight, then the transfer would be converted into a permanent one for £15m.
Hull City’s asking price of £20m has acted as a deterrent so far. However, it seems like Leeds United are looking to reinforce their squad for promotion. The Whites have struggled in the past month as they have failed to finish off games even while dominating the possession.
Jarrod Bowen’s name has been linked with the Whites in the past as well. The winger had bagged 22 goals last season and earned a place in Championship’s team of the season. Bowen already has 17 goals and five assists in all competitions this season, and he has once again emerged as the main man for the Tigers.
Will Bowen be a good signing?
It will undoubtedly be a significant coup for the Whites if they get a hold of the winger. Bowen can play on both the flanks or as an attacking midfielder. He usually prefers to play on the right-wing and starts as an inverted winger, where he often looks to drift inside into central areas instead of hugging the bylines.
The English winger has dribbling skills, close-quarter control and pace to go past players, but what makes him stand out is his ability to score goals from in and around the box. His shooting ability and decision making in the final third stands out.
Leeds United can do with a player who would be more direct and willing to take shots from range from time to time. A striker is United’s biggest priority in this window, but a player like Bowen can affect the game in the attacking areas and come up with crucial goals. The other attacking players have failed to support Bamford in terms of goals and Bowen would undoubtedly solve quite a few of Leeds United’s problems.
The Whites have been guilty of not converting their chances, and they need a live wire with an eye for a goal in the attacking third. Bowen is a proven player in the Championship and United should look to sign him in this window. However, Hull City would definitely try to keep hold of him given his importance. It remains to be seen whether United would be successful in getting their man.
