According to a recent report by The Scottish Sun, Crystal Palace are set to seal a move for Dundee United youngster Scott Banks later this month. The same source has also revealed that the Scottish midfielder had already come to a pre-contract agreement with the Eagles to move to England next summer.
However, Roy Hodgson has wasted no time and has decided to seal a move for him in January after agreeing on a fee with the Tangerines (via The Scottish Sun).
Banks’ Impressive Rise In Scottish Football
The Linlithgow-born starlet has come through the youth ranks of Dundee United before breaking out as a first-team starter earlier this season. He has gone on to make four appearances for Robbie Neilson’s side this term, playing a total of 158 minutes in the process.
The 18-year-old managed to improve his game during his loan spell at Clyde FC last season, scoring one and creating three assists for them in 15 matches across all competitions. He is currently an essential member of Scotland’s Under-19 side and looks destined to represent his nation at the senior level someday.
Banks is a highly versatile midfielder who can operate in multiple positions across the frontline. He is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also fill in as a winger on either flank if required. He has proven his worth at various youth levels but is yet to establish himself as a regular first-team starter in the Scottish Premiership.
Is Banks A Prospect For The Future?
A move to join Crystal Palace could turn out to be a career-defining move for a playmaker of Banks’ incredible potential. There is no doubt that the Tangerines whizkid will be a player to look out for in the coming years. However, at the moment, it is not logical to think that he will be able to make it in the Premier League.
Banks will likely play for Palace’s youth teams before he gets a chance to impress as part of Hodgson’s first-team. The Scottish playmaker needs to wait for his opportunity for now, but if the Eagles can invest some time on nurturing him, then he could turn out to be a star in the making at Selhurst Park.
