Tottenham Hotspur faced off against Watford earlier today hoping to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend. Spurs made a dominant start to the game but were toothless in front of goal. The Hornets ended the first 45 minutes strongly, but there was nothing to split the two teams at half-time.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second half but were unable to make a breakthrough as the clash finished 0-0 with Jose Mourinho’s men coming away with a point from Vicarage Road.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the contest versus the Hornets.
GK: Paulo Gazzaniga – 8/10
The Argentine goalkeeper made a couple of brilliant stops on his way to keeping a hard-fought clean sheet on the road. He saved Troy Deeney’s penalty, which helped salvage a point for his team.
RB: Serge Aurier – 6/10
He looked lacklustre going forward but held his own defensively inside his own half. The Spurs full-back had a few bright moments, but it was a mediocre display from him today.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 7/10
The Belgian international did enough to keep Gerard Deulofeu quiet during the 90 minutes. He has a well-deserved shutout to show for his efforts at the back.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 6/10
The veteran defender gave away the penalty which could have been disastrous, but fortunately for him, Gazzaniga made himself big and managed to save Deeney’s spot-kick.
LB: Japhet Tanganga – 7/10
The Tottenham youngster got cautioned in the first half but showed good composure to do his job defensively down the left flank for the remainder of the encounter.
CM: Giovani Lo Celso – 7/10
He passed the ball accurately and kept possession ticking in midfield. Lo Celso tried to be inventive with his ball-distribution, which is commendable.
CM: Harry Winks – 6/10
The English midfielder worked hard for his side and did enough defensive work to help his teammates secure a clean sheet. However, he didn’t show enough quality on the ball and was slightly wasteful with his passes in the opposition half.
CM: Dele Alli – 5.5/10
The English midfielder was willing to cover a lot of ground but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. It was a battling performance from him, but his antics after being subbed in the second half might not go down well with his manager.
RW: Erik Lamela – 5.5/10
The Argentine playmaker can consider himself a bit unlucky for not scoring today. However, he was guilty of squandering some decent scoring opportunities throughout the match.
ST: Lucas Moura – 6/10
The Brazilian speedster made a slow start to the game but put in a much-improved shift in the second 45. However, it was another game without a goal for him which won’t help his confidence at all.
LW: Heung-Min Son – 5/10
The South Korean international wanted to do a lot but ended up doing very little for his team. He was wasteful in the final third and looked like a player out of form.
Substitutes:
CM: Christian Eriksen – 6/10
The Danish midfield ace played some inviting passes, but his creative spark off the bench was not enough for Spurs to earn maximum points from the contest.
LW: Gedson Fernandes – 6/10
The Portuguese midfielder made a couple of bright runs from the left, but his final delivery left a lot to be desired.
