Recently reports (Daily Record) had emerged that Celtic had hit a roadblock in terms of securing a transfer for Bnei Yehuda’s midfielder Ismaila Soro. Celtic had agreed on personal terms with the player, but the midfielder’s representative and the Israeli club failed to agree on the amount they would bag from Soro’s transfer. Soro’s representatives are believed to own a percentage of the player and are negotiating the amount they will get from the transfer fee.
Celtic confident of getting their man
However, the latest update from the Daily Record states that Celtic remain confident of signing the Ivory Coast ace soon. The deal is said to be worth £2m. Celtic are also waiting on a work permit to be approved for the midfielder and hence, the delay over his transfer in the last two days.
Soro had commented on Wednesday night that he would be heading to Glasgow on Thursday. However, his claims were found to be untrue. But it is believed that an agreement is imminent between all the parties. The 21-year-old has already said his farewell to his Bnei Yehuda’s teammates. Hence, the transfer is still likely to go through soon.
Does Celtic need him?
The midfielder might not make much impact this season as Celtic have a settled midfield. Scott Brown is still going strong alongside Callum McGregor. Olivier Ntcham has also done well whenever he has gotten his chances. Nir Bitton is also an alternative, but he has predominantly played as a centre back this season. Soro is likely going to be Brown’s long term replacement as he is a defensive midfielder by trade.
The African ace is known for his ability to break downplay. He is known as a committed player as he likes going into challenges and tackles. Soro also showcases a decent quality on the ball as he can carry the ball well from the back and can go on marauding runs.
Soro was seen as an option for the future when he moved to Bnei Yehuda in 2018. However, he soon managed to break into the senior team and established himself in the defensive midfield role. As mentioned, Celtic are not in desperate need to add a defensive midfielder this month given the way Brown is still going.
However, it isn’t a bad ploy from the Hoops to bring in a 21-year-old who can be an understudy to the club captain for the time being. Once Brown retires, Soro would have enough experience of the Premiership under his belt to become a regular option for Lennon.
