Manchester United will travel to Anfield to clash heads with Liverpool on Sunday hoping to pull off an upset on the road. The Red Devils have enjoyed a good run of form of late, having emerged victorious in their past two matches. However, they will go up against a different beast when they face off against their unbeaten Merseyside rivals this weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and will be sweating on the availability of Marcus Rashford, who is a significant concern for this game.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
David De Gea will return in goal for the Red Devils after being rested in the midweek win over Wolves in the FA Cup. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire will resume their partnership at the centre of the Man United backline. However, they will have their hands full while up against an in-form Roberto Firmino this weekend.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will line up as the right-back and will be instructed to stop Sadio Mane from getting in behind him. Luke Shaw is a major doubt for this encounter, but he should get the nod to start in the left-back position if he can recover in time for this weekend’s clash at Merseyside. Otherwise, we can expect Brandon Williams to continue to fill in on the left side of the Red Devils backline.
Solskjaer’s men have kept three clean sheets in their past four matches across all competitions so they will try their best to stop the Liverpool front three from running riot at Anfield on Sunday.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic has been a liability for Man United in recent weeks, but Solskjaer will have no choice but to play him alongside Fred once again when they travel to Liverpool later this week. Both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba remain sidelined due to injury.
The talented young trio of Daniel James, Andreas Pereira and Mason Greenwood might get the nod to operate in the opposition half. They will look to interchange passes amongst each other and create some decent scoring opportunities going forward.
Marcus Rashford picked up yet another knock when he came on as a substitute versus Wolves in midweek, so he is a significant concern to start versus Jurgen Klopp’s men. Solskjaer won’t take any risks with him even if he is passed fit. Hence, it is expected that the English striker might be named on the bench and used as a second-half substitute if required.
Attack
Anthony Martial will get another chance to lead the charge for the Red Devils up top. The French forward managed to score versus Norwich City last weekend which should keep him in high confidence ahead of this weekend’s showdown against the Premier League leaders.
