Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they lock horns with Watford at the Vicarage Road on Saturday. The Lilywhites are coming on the back of a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup 3rd round replay. Jose Mourinho’s men will look to continue on that momentum and seal all three points this weekend.
Here is how Spurs could line up against the Hornets on Saturday.
Predicted 3-5-2 Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Watford
Formation: 3-5-2
Defence
Serge Aurier was finally given a breather in the midweek win over Middlesbrough. He was deputised by Japhet Tanganga, who may once again retain his place in the side, though he will likely have to shift into central defence.
As for Aurier, he could return to the right wing-back slot, with Mourinho likely to shift into a three-man backline. Ryan Sessegnon, on the other hand, started as a left-back against Middlesbrough. But, we expect Danny Rose to return to the side and start on the opposite flank.
In central defence, Tanganga will be partnered by the duo of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld, meaning Jan Vertonghen may have to settle for a place on the bench.
And finally, Paulo Gazzaniga will retain his place in goal, with Hugo Lloris still out with an injury.
Midfield
Mourinho will miss out on the services of French midfield duo Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele heading into this game. That means Harry Winks could once again play a pivotal role in the middle of the park, looking to dictate the tempo of the game.
The young Englishman could operate in a deeper role, with Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso being deployed in a slightly more advanced role. These two will look to provide the creative essence in the final third.
Attack
Tottenham will continue to miss out on the services of main forward Harry Kane. His absence has already served as a massive blow for Mourinho, and the Portuguese mastermind will once again face a stern challenge of replacing him in the final third.
The onus will likely be on the attacking duo of Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura. Erik Lamela is also an option, however, having impressed as a substitute in the past few weeks.
